As I'm looking through this, it was very entertaining. You guys are pretty funny.
Well I'm 100% Hmong. For those of you who don't know, you can google it as it is spelled or hmoob in our westernized written language. For those of you that are Chinese or familiar with, we are also refer to as Meo or Miao.
I was born in Laos, but raised here in America all my life. I don't really have any famous relatives or ancestors. One of my second or third cousin was almost mayor of Omaha, Nebreska. Jerry Yang (WSOP 2007 winner) is probably the most popular or known hmong person I can think of. I guess I will be famous, seems like I am the only Hmong on here?

I'm 100% American but my grandparents all immigrated from Greece:
50% from island of Corfu
50% from island of Crete (it's like the Greek version of being Sicilian)
My claim to fame is that my grandparent's house looks like the one in my Big Fat Greek Wedding with all the Greek flags and statues.

nothing exciting here full American but would eventually trace half the family to Italy - Napoli to be exact (about 3 gens back).

Both my cousins are/were professional windsurfers: Matt (just retired) & Kevin Pritchard. They have both been in the top 10 world rankings for several years on end and Kevin has been world champion a couple times:

I'm half English, half German, all poor.
My grandfather was born on the boat to America and his birth records are totally in German. His wife was born to German parents two or three years after they got here.
The other side is filled with poor Brits who came over after the potato famine. My grandfather was the first male in his family who didn't work in the coal mines in WV. He made the big step up to being a pipe-fitter in the cigarette factory! :awais:
As for famous people, my mother is an executive at a Fortune 100 company, but that's more boring than famous. THE most famous person in my family is probably my great-great-uncle, who was the first person in a newly-opened coal mine in WV to die, not because it caved in or from sickness, but by being run over by a mine truck. Oops.

well on my dads side Greek 3rd generation and my moms side german and russian..........makes me a mutt I suppose.
famous person, well famous to our family. My grandfather on my dads side researched our family tree to exhaustion for 20 years, and our family farm near Carlisle, PA housed half of George Washington's troops for part of a winter. A letter thanking them for their patriotism and hospitality was found, pretty cool.

This is an interesting thread, can't believe I never came across it over the last year or so. I did my family geneology on dad's side and found that the Travis family came to the states from England, and landed in Jamestown around 1613, that being my 7th great-grandfather, Dr. Edward L. Travis. I even got back to the 1100's in England when the family name was Traverse. I actually have a famous person in the family - William Barrett Travis, Commander of the Alamo. Going down the family tree, he would be my 3rd great-grandfather's first cousin. For those of you that are not from Texas, here is you chance to read up on some Texas history - he commanded the Alamo, an old spanish mission, in 1836 with 180 other men, holding off the invading Mexican army of about 5000 long enough to allow the Texans to get an army together which subsequently defeated Santa Anna and won indepence for Texas. Of course Travis, Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and the rest were killed after 13 days of bombardment and the eventual over-running of the Alamo by the Mexican army. So, getting back to the question, I am full-blooded English, as my mother's side of the family came from England as well. Prior to England, couldn't tell you, other than Adam and Eve - LOL.

Family did our family history before I started college to see what money I qualified for.
Here are the results.
German: Nobility that married Dutch, disowned, moved to US. Decade or so later asked to move back and given money and jewels. Kept them and stayed here anyway. So now oldest girl in each generation wears a Ruby about the size of a golf ball that is surrounded by other smaller emeralds, sapphires, etc... Pretty cool. My Aunt wore it to her wedding.
Indian: Quanah Parker, cheif who didn't register so I had no chance of getting scholarships. Thanks grandpa....
Scottish: This is direct relation. Mary Stewart, Queen of Scots, and the rest of her family. Pretty legit.
Other notables: Roger Morris (look for his name on the Declaration of Independence), Hannah Cole (pioneer, husband scalped, she held down fort, which is now site of Missouri's capital building), another one that's the "Black sheep" of the family for sure is James Earl Ray (if you don't know who he is, I'll let you figure it out).
That's all I remember off the top of my head.
