What ome coil do i need for the front?

I dont really have many mods on my 96 right now but i do have a manik brush guard i would assume the brush guard weighs more than 100lbs. and im trying to decide if i want to go with an 881 coil or an 883 coil. i will be getting it from toytech most likely unless you guys have a better idea just seems like through the research that toytech is the best for customer service and price and product. whats your opinion?

I seriously doubt that brush guard weighs 100 lbs. I think the arbs weigh around that. I would go with the lightest ome coil.

i'm running an arb with the 882's and am hating life, even with the weight of a full plate bumper the 882's are too stiff, i'd either go with the 881's or look for something else entirely.

from my understanding the ome coils are never meant to be used as lift coils instead they are meant to compensate for extra weight you just end up getting extra lift when you apply them when the extra weight isn't there, if that makes any sense. personally i'm selling my front coil set-up and replacing with the trundra set-up.


that said plenty of people on here run the ome set-up and are more then happy,
and the coils work great for them, they are just to stiff for me as i drive 100 miles a day between work and errands so i need something closer to the stock ride, hence going back to the billies and trd coils for the front.

depends on your intentions but i defiantly wouldn't count your brush guard as being extra weight and compensate for that with upgraded coils.

alright... so basically i do light off roading nothing major just through some creeks and some 4 wheeler trails... what kind of lift would you recommend? im wanting around a 2.5 to 3" lift

Yeah I wouldn't even take that brushguard into consideration, it's probably 30 lbs. I agree with izzard that the 882s (and 883s) are way to harsh without a lot of extra weight. Mine rode stiff for almost a year, but they've finally broken in and I wouldn't trade them for anything now (and I have an ARB which weighs a lot more than that brushguard. I would go with 881s (for ~2") and add a top plate spacers if you want 3". If a smooth ride is what you're after, then the TRD Tundra coils will be the best choice IMO (also like izzard recommended).

lol, you're just more of a man then i am dude, lol , no pun intended, i just can't hang with these 882's long enough for them to break in like that....lol

i got a question for you man you think i can fit my 285's with my stock "tall" 99 coils until i can sale my ome's and get the trd set-up? limited wheeling until the new set-up is in place or should i just save up the cash and do teh swap direct and then sale the ome's after wards.

back on topic, yeah like brian said, also if you want to keep it even more mild but gain an extra clearance you can get the tall '99 coils and an a plate on top of those for around 1-2.5 inches depending on your current ride height, if your go that way your essentially all stock the whole way around with the exception of a top plate spacer.

the '99's where the tallest of all of the runners and have 1.5-2 inches on some of the other years from stock.

You can fit your 285s in there on '99 coils. Theoretically, full stuff is full stuff. However, you'll just be at full stuff a lot more and a lot sooner when you have 2" less lift so smaller obstacles will max it out and you'll rub on speed bumps instead of 18" boulders. I personally think it would drive me crazy, but if you just stick to on road and light trails (like fire or logging roads), you would be fine.

well i checked into the tundra coils, just checking, i need to go with an 02 setup right? they look like they are going to be pretty good. The '99 tall coils where would i begin to look at a junk yard or what? if so how many miles would be acceptable? again thanks so much for all the info!

i think you can buy them new, one of the parts supplier that the guys on here like has them, i have no idea of the company or if you need the specific part number to order them or not, but i have heard of them out there.

which trd coils? i am on the fence as what to get for the fronts, whether 99 talls to go with my 906's/billies out back or something else?
