what parts to change doing rear brakes?

My truck has 225,000 miles on it, never done rear brakes. They are finally getting low. Should I change the hardware and wheel cylinders at the same time as the brake shoes or re-use them? what would you do? They work fine and I plan to keep the truck

Good time to replace axle seals if they are leaking.

Yeah, it depends on what it looks like in there. If its free of fluid, Id leave the seals, check the breather and move on. I would replace the drums and shoes with the retaining hardware, but leave everything else if it looks good...just my opinion

If the cylinders are leaking then replace them. At 225k I would get new drums and shoes. Get OEM shoes! Drums do not matter as much since they are so simple. Hardware is cheap so get that too.

Why replace the drums? I would think that is the last thing I would replace unless it grooved or it has physical damage.

If you decide to replace wheel cylinders don't be like me. Save headache and go OEM. When I first started reading this site I loathed all the OEM only talk but I am a believer for a lot of parts now. I recently replaced my wheel cylinder with NAPA and it didn't fit right. Then I went with Dorman and the bleed valve leaked. Camelback Toyota parts has wheel cylinders for something like $50 bucks. They also have the rebuild kits for I think $25. My car is currently in the shop getting the brakes done right cause the rears caused so much headache, much of which I attribute to cheap parts.

Also when you buy shoes make sure they have the little post pressed in to the shoe. I went Napa Super Premium or whatever for these and the post wasn't pressed in and it caused headache. For shoes I have heard guys on here who have had luck with brakeperformance.com
