What setting is everyone using with a 6112 setup?

Hi everybody, I was hoping to get some settings and resulting lift numbers for anyone using the Bilstein 6112's. I want to increase my chances of getting it right the first time. Especially interested in anyone using different settings on one side because of KDSS. I've searched and found some results but would appreciate more to base my decision off of. Thanks in advance.

Matt

*Update 9/9/17*

Just wanted to give some final thoughts and numbers for future reference:

2011 4Runner Trail with KDSS

Front - Bilstein 6112's. Driver side set to 5th groove and the passenger side set to the 6th groove.
Rear - Bilstein 5100's and Dobinsons C59-505 springs. I have a 10mm OME spacer installed on the passenger side.

Initially I had the fronts both set at the 5th groove and the 10mm spacer installed with the Dobinsons springs. This resulted in 3/4"-1" of lean toward the passenger side even with a full tank of gas. I decided to move the right clip up one groove and now have roughly 1/8" lean toward the passenger side with a full tank of gas. The lean isn't visible with the naked eye but I'm happy it exists since I'm 6' 4", 220 lbs and I think the current setup should be a perfect balance between the lean caused by fuel levels and driver weight. The car looks much better since the change in the passenger front simultaneously lowered the drivers side rear a small amount. The rake from front to back is slightly less. Overall I couldn't be happier. The measurements below were on level ground with a full tank of gas and are bottom of fender to center of hub. Should be accurate to within an 1/8". Upon reading all of this I feel I may appear to have a strong case of OCD but whatever! It wasn't hard nor expensive to dial the suspension settings in to where I'm happy. Anyways, maybe this will help somebody in the future. More importantly, the ride is fantastic. A huge improvement both on and off road. I'll throw up some pictures in the next day or two.

DF- 21 5/8" PF- 21 1/2"
DR- 23 3/4" PR- 32 5/8"

When I set up my KDSS Trail with TRD shocks (very, very similar to 6112s), I ended up at equal perch settings to level it from driver to passenger side (TRD Pros have one side set higher than the other to accommodate for fuel/driver weight).

How high you want the front end should be relative to what you're doing in the rear. Pretty sure there is a Bilstein PDF running around that shows the different heights:

Curious on this as well. Is the potential offset different for some...i.e. do some need the offset due to KDSS while others may not?

I went out and measured the front end and the sides are only off by 1/4" or so. I'm assuming the stock coils are equal length, so I may just have both 6112s setup the same.

As FYI, I'm going with the 2.2" front setting and T13 shocks from Wheelers for 1.5" on the rear.

Me too

I'm headed to have mine installed tomorrow and I'm still on the fence with 8 hours left. I have a set of 5100s and the Dobinson C59-599s which are supposed to provide 0.75" of lift in the rear (or as it reads in their thread... keeps rear end low, allowing to level the vehicle rake with 2" front lift).

I have a third row, so I have been wavering back and forth between the 5/4 1.85" setting and the 4/3 1.5" setting. I had Wheelers assembly my struts at the 4/3 1.5" setting, but now am really thinking I wanna go the other way. I just don't want reverse rake and I'm worried that the I might get it with at the 1.85" setting with the third row and only 0.75" lift in the rear.

What is everyone setting their revised 6112s at to level things out with stock rear springs? That might assist me in my calculations!

PS No KDSS

I'm at 1.85 in the front and 5100's with stock spring and a .75" spacer in the rear. No Kdss so if may be a bit different but I'm pretty happy with how it sits. There is some rake but less then stock. Fully loaded with lots of gear and water and it's a hair nose up from level so I think it's s good compromise.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think it would be really helpful if the height achieved was also accompanied by the actual settings used. I know that Bilstein has a document showing "expected" height results, but real world results seem to occasionally stray from expectations. Also, whether the 6112's in question are the revised or original version would be appreciated. Thanks!

Took these measurements before I installed my 6112's earlier this year.
Revised version using clip 7 on driver side and 6 on the passenger side.

Not the best angle for the afters but it sits just around 22.5 from the hub to the fender and 36.75" from ground to fender. Hope it helps. These are just the driver's side. The passenger side (not pictured) actually still sits a quarter higher to this day. Doesn't bother me. Maybe a 7/5 clip setting could fix that. Everyone's mileage may vary though. I just went by the instructions though.

I actually took measurements this past weekend but I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head. But the passenger side is indeed a tad higher since install in February.

In for this as well. Based on what I've read KDSS requires setting on the same notch to remain level. The question would be, does the #2 notch on the new 6112's start the KDSS owners at 0.79 or 1.14?

Revised 6112s set at 3/4 gave me approximately the advertised 1.5" lift (no KDSS, rear = 5160, stock springs, no spacers). It's somewhere between 1" and 1.5", possibly around 1.25"; I've seen some variation over multiple measurements while, surprisingly, not happening upon even, level ground.

Thanks to everyone taking the time to post here. Currently my plans are to try the 6112's set at 5 (driver side) and 6 (passenger side) to hopefully help with the lean. I'm running stock size tires and want to have a versatile setup (it's my only car and sees a lot of different terrain) therefore I'm hoping that by not running the fronts as high as they can go will improve the ride and not force the need for new UCA's at the moment. The stock suspension has never impressed me and is also showing quite a bit of age. As far as the rear goes, I'm going to run 5100's for now and I have a set of the Wheelers T13 (worried these will be too high) and a set of Dobinsons C59-505. I'm going to try the Dobinsons first and see how the suspension settles. Please chime in if anyone has thoughts or advice on my choices. Thanks again!

You may want 6 on the driver's side and 5 on the passenger instead. If that's what you meant in the first place.

I believe he is trying to compensate for the KDSS lean with the higher passenger setting.

Please let us know what you end up with.... I would be curious of your hub to fender measurements of the 6112's and 505's. I'll be attempting to lift a KDSS Trail with the 6112 (#4/#4 perch) w/ either stock springs or the Dobinson 599. I'm hoping this will yield me 1.85" front / 0.75" rear.

Will do. I considered the same setup as you but wanted a bit more lift and security from too much droop when loaded up for camping, etc.

Let me know how it goes with your Dobinsons and what 6112 clips you're at with the KDSS. I'm doing the same exact thing next weekend but with the 2" Dobinson C59-725's and hopefully whatever 2.25" should be (I'm thinking 6's on each side?) with the JBA Upper Control Arms.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you find out.

mudhippy88 Matters did you guys ever get around to install?
I currently have mine setup on the 7th notch for both sides and planning to install this weekend.
I also have the T13s for the rear.

It seems the majority of what I've read is to keep the clips at the same for KDSS.

Thanks for any update you can provide!

Doing mine this weekend on the 6th setting with Dobinsons KDSS 2" coils in the rear to keep it close-ish to stock rake. Probably doing it Saturday. Did you get yours preambled without using the top mounting bracket?

dang i wish you were closer. i'm on a time crunch but if i wasnt i wouldve totally drove up to SB.
I took it to a local shop a friend referred. $50 cash to assemble vs 100+ everywhere else. i have the manual compressor but had some trouble and it started to look a bit funny so i didn't trust the equipment to go any further.

yeah i plan on doing the rears first friday night and the tackle the front saturday morning.

good luck with your install!
