What should I be looking for?

Today as I was going through a little small town to get to another small town I noticed a 3rd Gen 4R, not sure what year didn't have time to stop, for sale. Now this place that had it for sale is an auto repair/body shop and they do alot of this stuff, maybe get a vehicle and do a little something something to it and flip it. But anyways, from the road it looked good and straight but as you know that don't mean a whole lot. They're asking $4900 for it, not saying I'll get it BUT if I were to, say, accidentally pull in their with just under $4900 what would be some key point indicators for me to look for that would make this worth that $ or not?

Look for rust, elocker, 4x4, check the valve covers, pretty much your basic check list.

Make sure all body lines line up with no major gaps. Check for anything that looks brand new indicating a replacement part. Check for anything that looks bent. Make sure it drives straight.

Also check the rear axle seals for leaks, and any other major leaks like the rear main seal or power steering rack. Definitely look at the ball joints and under the valve covers as that will show how well it's been taken care of, stay away from rust. Ask about the water pump and timing belt if no sticker anywhere, all these things can end up being costly repairs if they have been neglected or need to be done soon.. and if you have multiple items that need attention the $$ can add up quickly even doing the repairs yourself.
