What stereo do you use?

Is it just me or anyone else a tad twitchy about installing a nice double din stereo in the T4R?

It just screams snag me if you HAVE to park your rig in a downtown area on the street.

Whenever You Park Your Truck:
1) removable faceplate
2) tinted windows
3) sun visor blocking cabin from view
4) use a Truck Club
5) car alarm or blinking red light mod
6) fuel cuttoff switch
7) don't park in a high crime area (if you can avoid it)

Bonus advice:
1) don't put a sticker on your rear window that says a stereo name (Infinity, Kicker, Alpine whatever) LOL.

How does everyone feel about the risk of not being able to remove the faceplate?

There are a few double dins with removable faceplates though.

There are people that make fake face plates to put over their expensive radio. Like this one I found real quick on google. He even put a cassette in the thing to make it look real. I've seen better ones where they cut the cassette to where it actually sits in the deck better. Seems like a great idea to stop some guy just walking by real quick looking in cars.

My eclipse unit has a flashing red light... I don't often park outside, but when I do, I do not have any worries.

A friend solves the problem with a very sensitive alarm system. Come within about 6 inches of his vehicle and it chirps at you a few times. I like that...

My JVC 6.1" touchscreen has a removable face plate.

Thanks guys.

Just can't see having a really nice double din stereo at a trailhead with me in the backcountry with tons of local yahoo's peeking in and breaking in because they know you'll be gone.

And guys, I even know what the fake faceplates look like. Several factories in China make them and they are all over eBay and Amazon.

That's why detachable is important to me.

JVC is a huge Android partner too.

Just get a multi channel amp under seat and use a 3.5 mini to rca cable (headphone plug-to-red/white stereo) to plug your phone/tablet/mp3 player in to the input on amplifier....then you just take it with you...and actually some of the software players are quite good but "neutron music player" for android continues to be the audiophiles favorite.

I have really enjoyed my sony unit and it has the detachable face plate. I love that the ipod goes inside to give it a clean look with no cords. I also added the bluetooth handsfree mic which is nice. It makes crystal clear calls.

I don't know what trailheads you go to, but that's shit you find in the city, not the country.

I've had the Clarion NX702 for a while. It was a nice head unit. Beautiful display. Nav, bluetooth backup cam, and all that good stuff. But ended up returning it for something esle after two months.

Ended up with the JVC KW-NT800HDT. Love this HU when I had an Iphone. You can plug 4 USB flash drive with a hub in this thing at once and it also has a SD slot and DVD. So that kinda solved my music problem. Lots of features and setting. I still enjoy this HU after a year.

I may end up selling this and get something with mirror link for android device.

+1 on the JVC KW-R500, I have one in my 4Runner paired with a Rockford Fosgate P2D4-12" and Kenwood Excelon X500-1 amp, the sound is great, eq presets are good and head unit controls for the sub are also good. Also has a built in high pass filter so you can get all the lows out of the door speakers. Highly Reccomend

Off topic. But what have you turned your clock into? I see it says highway on there.

I made the switch to a ''digital media" head unit years ago. I mean in this day and age who really uses CDs anymore? In the begining I was using my own music/ipod but lately I"ve been using Spotify.

I'm running the Alpine IDA-X305.

Yeah, I bought a Pioneer cheapo unit from Walmart for like $30 and I love it. Spent almost as much on the wiring harness and butts as the head unit!
