I have a single 12" Kicker L7 in mine...and damn, way more bass than is needed. It is in a ported box. I plan to make a custom enclosure eventually to go over the passenger side wheel well. But yea that thing KNOCKS!! I think Kicker and JL audio are both great companys that make superb components. I dont think you will be disappointed in either direction you choose. Good luck!

I just buy whatever my local pawnshop has that's decent quality and a cheap price. I have yet to be not satisfied. I had a kicker l5 with a apline amp. That was more then enough for me lol.

of your list I say JL, just like them better than kickers. BUT, my mostest favoritest sub ever was an old Infinty Kappa Perfect 12, amazing sound, gobs of peak wattage, and the thing still rocks after 10 years or more.

i have a single JL 10 and it is plenty, it will make my trim rattle and vibrate anything that isnt lose or doesnt have any dampening to it... no sense in running a dual system, unless you have some serious amps and a top of the line head unit and some high end speakers. other wise you are just gonna drowned out the sound. but if you live in Compton or or east oakland then sure

I can never justify paying $1 per watt, but JL's are decent systems. They are like the Alienware of the car audio world. They are nice, but cheaper systems can be built with the equal or less cost and outperform them.

With 10", 12", 15", 18", etc. sized subwoofers, many people think that the bigger the cone, the harder it hits. But in actuality, your just choosing which frequency range you want.

10" subwoofers will be loud inside the cabin of the vehicle.
12" subwoofers will be loud inside the car behind you.
15" subwoofers will be loud inside the car a block away.

So keep this in mind when making your purchase. Are you getting the system for YOU to enjoy? Or to piss of the guy next to you?

And to chime in it really depends on how much bass you want, frequency response, what amps your using, what source signal your using... That'll help determine which sub to use

How does that not make sense? Of course those were relative examples, but it's a general idea. Your not going to purchase 2 - 10" subs and expect to hear the exact same brand and model in a bigger cone hit the same. You will hear it hit harder from further away. The bigger subwoofer will not sound as loud as the smaller, from within the vehicle. Range of frequencies.

For instance:
A 10" subwoofer will be noticeably loud in the cabin.
A 12" subwoofer will be noticeably loud outside of the car.
A 10" subwoofer will not be as loud as a 12" from outside of the car.
A 12" subwoofer will not be as loud as a 10" from inside the car.

The smaller the subwoofer, the tighter the bass-line. The larger the subwoofer, the bigger and lower the bass will be. Subwoofers also operate differently from box to box as well. Whether ported or non-ported, the sound can change drastically and differences are strictly independent of the drivers/woofers installed.

Another example:
If you like dubstep, techno, rock, etc. - 10's are better because they can quickly deliver bass notes, or if your favorite band drummer likes the double bass pedals, you will like 10's.
If you like rap, reggae, R&B, etc. - 12's are better because they can carry a lower note and has lower frequency responses.

Not to start a war, but I disagree with most of what you say... If you can't get the response you want from a certain subwoofer you're most likely not setting it up correctly. Many variables to account for... Enclosure type, listening environment, driver sensitivity, RMS power, source signal... You can't just say a 10" is going to be louder and tighter in a cabin... That's incorrect... I have a 13W6 sealed 2.0 ft^3 box perfectly power matched with 750 RMS that sounds perfectly loud, clear, controlled inside the cabin. The setup is everything bottom line. On another note I'm pretty much a JL fan, but I agree with you on the prices being a bit high... And I like the Alienware comparison haha

I have a single 10" JL in a sealed S/O bass bunker enclosure. Only giving it about 100w....and that thing hits plenty hard enough. I would never do a dual sub setup in a 4runner.

Most people are fine with a single 12 in a properly built ported box running on around 600Rms, you'll need to upgrade and amp the rest of the speakers once you start to get around 1000rms or so.

But trust me on this, an 18 can still hit the high notes tightly. It's 80% in the enclosure and 20% the equipment.

Just finished installing a single 12" Rockford Power in a ported box on a T1000-1 (1,500 watts) With the entire rear covered in Stinger deadening.. uh... these trucks are not thrilled to see bass.

One 12 or two 10's is almost overkill.

Main spot to deaden is the doors, and you have to secure the gas door better and license plate and frame, other than that its not bad rattle wise.

Skar Audio. They have some of the highest quality subs out there. Theyre not too much, they just require a pretty hefty amp to run.

My friends Skar 10 is louder then my two 12's.
