What the F$7k Just Happened?!?

The radiator could also be the cause. The fan can sling that mess all over the place. Is that most recent pic from under the bumper?

For further presently useless speculation, green coolant plus burnt ATF equals the color in your pictures. The instant temp peg is interesting...

Just got word that my runner has a cracked head. I'm hoping that you have some better news when you find yours out, but I figured I would give you a heads up since our runners seemed to have very similar symptoms from the beginning. Hope your trip is going well and hope you receive some better news when you get home.

Well, that is the thing. It depends. After my pops talked to the shop its at right now, they said that I needed a new engine. I then talked to another shop that knows my specific 4runner better and they said bring it in, we can rebuild the heads and put a new timing belt and water pump in along with flushing the transmission for around 1600. If it is just the head that needs to be rebuilt, I will just go ahead and do that. If it ends up being a bigger problem than that, I am tempted to go for an attempt of the sequoia v8 but no promises. We shall see, but as of now I am just sort of depressed I don't have my car... I hope you get better news.

I don't think it is mixed oil and coolant due to lack of seperation. Just dirty coolant or mixed red/green coolant.

Also from looking at your pics, is that heater shutoff valve hose connected? I can't tell on my phone.

I would love for you to be right, but the substance is very very oily.

Yes all the hoses are connected. It got that big mess because I took off the radiator cap when it was hot.

Please do let us know what ended up happening to yours, I hope for the best for you because I can honestly say right now I think I feel your pain pretty well. Hope your trip went well too.

It's getting close to that time. I'm hoping for the absolute best on this one. Fingers crossed the Runner is OK.

Yes I get into Pittsburgh at 11:49 and am hoping I can check it out then because I am being picked up by my friend who has to work at 6 am.

Either way it is getting pulled out of there Thursday.

How long should it take to take off the driveshaft everyone?

why would you need to take off the driveshaft?

If you do remove it, make sure you permenantly mark (notch) its pieces so they go back together the same and not 180 degrees off (causing vibrations).

It will come off it about 5 minutes but theres really no need to remove it. Like Brain said, if you do remove it, mark it so that it goes back together in the same orientatrion you took it out.

If I am going to carry it on a car dolley I need the driveshaft off, no? Especially with te chance of pink milkshake I dont want to put it in neutral for that long with the key on.

Is there a lapse in my thinking?

The car dolley is a lot easier to tow than the heavy transport trailer IMO.

Yes but with threat of PM wouldn't that slosh everything inside the tranny around unnecessarily?

I dont think it will matter. The fluid is already in there.

I've never dropped the DS on a 4Runner but I did it on my old 92 BMW back in 2001. I remember that marking it was important.

I agree with Brian here too, at this point, if it is the milkshake, whats done is done. That sh*t has been sitting in there for almost a week now. But, dropping the DS is very easy so if it gives you some additional piece of mind, drop it. It won't hurt anything not being in there.
