What the fudge?

So I installed a USB charger into the blank of my center console. I used a positive (pink/blue) wire from an unused plug in by the DAC harness. I confirmed it has power with a light pen thing (don't know what it's called). Then I grounded it to a black ground from my light bar switch (confirmed it was a working ground).

When I turn the ignition to acc or on the charger doesn't work regardless of headlights being on or off. When I turn the car off and remove the key with the headlights on the charger works.

This doesn't make any sense to me! help.

First, using a 12 volt Test Light on a vehicle equipped with Can Bus is very dangerous. You could very easily damage a control unit.

Go to Harbor Freight and pick up an affordable, decent multimeter.

Second, go to a known good 12 volt source, like the cigarette adapter, and T-tap into it's power AND ground, avoid choosing alternate grounds to prevent ground loops.

By using the power outlet, you are selecting a source that is already properly fused, and if something goes wrong, it's easier to track down.

This! I added 2 usb outlets in my ash tray and spliced into the cigarette lighter that was already there. Everything works as it should.

Anyone know exactly which wire from the smoker kit plug is the ground??

Typical Toyota grounds are Black wires, White with a Black Stripe, and Brown.

Figured it out... If you ever buy.THIS unit just know there is a possibility that the black wire is positive and the red wire is negative.

Isn't red-positive/black-negative pretty universal?

Had me stumped for an hour or so. F&#kers...

The wires on the switch are incased in the housing so there is no way of switching them around :/.

I was about to give up after I tried every wire I could under there.. a lot of cut 3 way splices under there now.

Weird. I have the same one and red is positive.
