What Tires Provide Best Grip and Less Noise?

I am surprise that no one has mentioned this tire: Goodyear Fortera. It is supposedly very quiet and depending on which model you pick, it is also strong (Fortera SilentArmor) or excellent in all weather conditions (Fortera Tripletred).

I have the Fortera Silent Armors in 265/70/17. They are quiet, they ride very smoothly and they look great. Living in Florida, though, I need a tire with great hydroplane resistance and the Fortera is not it. They hydroplane very easily, much too easily to suit me.

I read all the reviews on Tire Rack before I decided to buy and am disappointed with the tire's wet traction. Oh well. I will try the Alenzas next time but only if Bridgestone comes out with a raised white letter edition. Otherwise, I am going with the Maxxis Bravo HT 760. I put them on my girl's Tahoe and they are great in all aspects - noise, wet traction, smoothness of ride. AND they don't hydroplane...AND they are less than $100 per tire.

After reading these posts I may give the Geolander a try on the next set I need. We'll see as that will be a long time. My AT Revo's are just 3 years old with @25,000 and still have lots of tread left. I suspect I will be replacing these Dunflops on the 4R by next fall

People here seem to bash the OEM Dunlops but I have 28K on mine and have no complaints other than their propensity for picking up nails. I have had to totally replace two of them.
I had Cross Terrains on my Explorer and they were OK but they were bad about picking up the gravel in my driveway and distributing it in my wheelwells for the first 5 miles or so. I also think the Michelin LTX M/S was a better tire but not made in 265/65/17. OWL on the Cross Terrain is pretty dumb looking as well.

Here's another vote for the Cross-Terrains. Mine were OE on my '03 LTD V8. At 61K miles, they still have a long life left. Great wet and dry grip, steering response and decent ice/snow performance. And they are near-silent.

When these finally wear out, no thought in my mind about buying anything else!

The Bridgestone AT Revo is a good on road tire , much more so than an all terrain or off road capable tire.

Check the Goodyear line , they have some nice road tires out , the Mich's are nice too and not aggressive at all , but supposed to have great traction.

Wow, that is a bit surprising. Well, that just proves why Tirerack reviews are next to worthless. I bought Goodyear Comfortred based on Tirerack's reviews...well, it's no longer on my Corolla (after 20K miles). I switched to Michelin X-Radials (2nd rated on Consumer Reports) and they are worth every penny!

I purchased a 2000 SR5. It has Dunlop Radial Rover ATs. Seems to be a pretty good tire. Has a pretty good tread pattern. Low noise, and decent ride. Over at the Tire Rack people have posted favorable things about the tire.

Unless you have some specify needs, the Cross Terrain is the best compromise. It
