What will be your next truck/SUV.....

I am actually in the market for a new car. I have been looking at the ads everyday. I am looking for a 2008 4Runner as my first choice and a 4 cyl. RAV4 as my possible back up. Right now the 2008 4Runners are kind of high in price. Hopefully early next year will be a bit better. We will see. Oh yes, I am keeping my 2001 4Runner and I am getting rid of my 92 Honda Accord wagon that has 216,000 miles on it.

I think the 2008 4Runner with curtain air bags and side air bags, with the V6 and special hitch for more weight capacity is the way to go. It is not the newest SUV, but it is really reliable, plus I love the feel of the 4Runner.

Smart thing is NOT to buy it out!! From what i have read that is one of the biggest financial don'ts in auto financing!
 
In 2 years, I will buy a slightly used supercrew pickup. We haven't decided what kind yet. My oldest will drive my 150kmile Jeep and I will start putting over 30kmiles/year on the 4runner. I'm going to shoot for 300k miles before I sell it.

You realize Toyota employs more people in the US than most car companies right? And whaling? Seriously? How about a concern for people... Japan is a hell of a lot more humane than some of your other options.
 
I love my 05 4Runner. However, I would like the Tacoma Crew cab or Tundra Crew with a diesel. Rumors are flying about more diesels coming our way. Not really a fan of hybrids or Ethanol. Just doesn't seem the way to go. I've had several diesels and I really like them. Ground pounding torque and awesome mileage to boot.:D
 
Haven't decided on the timeframe yet.

I've been considering an '08 Highlander Limited, but have gotten distracted by the '09 Nissan Murano LE (pictures here; general availability in January '08). My family has owned numerous Nissans and an Infiniti, and the experiences have been as good as my Toyota(s).

If I can't make up my mind, I may wait for the next-gen 4Runner. The nice thing about my current 4Runner is that it still feels relatively "new," even though it's over 3-years old (and a design that's 5-years old).

Am looking to get 4runner Sport Edition 2007 or 2008 soon as dealer gets back to me with his *best offer*
 
I've been driving trucks for 10 years, and I needed a new vehicle so I decided to try something new. I bought a 3.5 SE Nissan Altima with leather and nav. It's pretty nice. I'm still keeping the 4runner btw, my fiancee is driving it.

IF Toyota keeps and/or increases the towing capability AND adds a Diesel engine option (at a reasonable price) I would consider a next generation 4Runner.

If not, I guess I will keep my current 4Runner until it wears out.
 
My '99 will be my SUV for some time to come since with gas prices continuing to rise I'll be driving somehting sensible on a daily basis and keeping my Runner for winter driving and off road fun.
 
i'm still waiting to get my Nissan Pathfinder. it's been on order now for about 2-3 weeks. wanted a new T4R but my lease ends this Jan and there's not new model out yet. i didn't want to be driving the same car for another 3 years or so. that said, the Pathy will fill in the time until the new T4R drops. hopefully it will be nice if not... who knows.

originally i was looking into buying an GC SRT-8 but after reading the SRT-8 forum there was no way in hell i was going to drop that loot for something as unreliable as that truck. people had the truck in the shop after having it a paltry 2 weeks, not even broken in... f that!
 
Because of gas prices, I suspect that SUVs will go back more to what they were intended for - a sport/utility vehicle - instead of a pretty in-town bling cruiser. (except in places like Scottsdale where higher gas prices doesn't mean as much to most folk)

Again, a diesel would be nice, but more users means more demand = higher prices. This will also mean higher prices for shipping things by truck (which is how 85% of goods are shipped in the US), which means higher consumer prices overall. I'm told diesel fuel is also prone more to spot shortages in the market than gasoline.

Additionally, the newly mandated ultra low sulphur diesel fuel costs more to produce.

If fuel prices continue to climb past four to possibly five bucks a gallon, I'll continue to drive my 2007 V8 4Runner as it was bought for cash and it would only be another five hundred to a thousand more bucks a year for gas to drive than a smaller four or six cylinder SUV.

Now when I buy another new vehicle, it'll probably be one of the hybrids or all electric ones, in about ten to fifteen years as my 4Runner will probably last that long or longer. ;):

To get rid of a 4Runner for a more efficient car would cost me more money in a 'loss' than the cheaper gas could make up for it.

Plus I have the benefits of as 4Runner V8, comfort, speed, off road ability and most of all safety.

YUP! So true, but yet many people will buy something just cuz they wanna be "green." That's their choice, but I choose to also have green in my wallet! :dancin:
