What would be a fair labor rate for a lift.

I am looking to grab a Toytec lift kit for TRD Pro and i am not sure I want tackle in install.
What would be a fair rate if i supplied the kit.
I have a local tire shop that may do it but I want to know what you guys think is fair?

I'm thinking $300-$400 as well.
I lucked out and paid $270.00, but that was the install only. Alignment was another $104.
Shop around, and even maybe check with the dealer?

Thanks guys. I may just ask the dealer when I pick it up. I got an update yesterday. It was put on the boat 3/26 and scheduled to arrive in port on 4/25.

Long 8 weeks - i have ordered a bunch of goodies so they will be here when it comes home.

Definitely check with them and if the techs are good with upgraded suspensions. My Toyota service guy straight up told me to not bring it to them for a lift and use a Local off road shop who does those types of lifts all of the time instead. Some Toyota service departments may be good with it but if they tell you what my guy did an would look elsewhere. The dealer could be good for alignment though.

Legitimate shops and dealers bill at book rates. They have a book that says how many labor hours it should take for a given job and that it how they estimate the labor hours.

Yup. There's nothing too complicated about installing a "lift kit". It's just removing and replacing easy-to-get-to suspension parts. Expect hourly rates from $80-130, and quoted install times of 4-6 hours, plus an alignment. Your best bet is to call a bunch of places and see what they say.

Oh yeah... Before somebody else says it...drive the TRD pro for a while to get a feel for the fancy suspension you're already paying big bucks for.

I installed the 5160 rears on mine.... very easy to do.

Had my "go to" tech at the dealership install my 6112's and IIRC, with alignment was $480'ish.
Book time was more than I paid.

It should be less for you because both units you remove will come out intact, no spring compression involved.

I believe the book rate was around 5-6 hours.

And my personal best was 2.5 hours. But I have friends that took 12 hours.

Agree with this.
The money you save, you can put everything a Pro has on it, plus a better suspension setup.
And still put the TRD Pro emblems if you desire.

See if there is a Toyota enthusiast group in your area, and they may have some recommendations. We have a local Subaru Facebook group here in Cleveland, and one guy has his own shop and does suspension work. I've had him do quite a bit of work on my Outback. He also happens to be a lead tech at the Toyota dealership where my 4Runner is coming from. So when I get to the point of doing suspension work, I'll just keep going to the same guy.

BTW, my TEP was supposedly loaded on the boat 3/22 and is due to arrive 4/5. How come my boat is faster than yours?

I remember waiting 6 weeks for my TEP. It arrived with 2km on the odometer.
Definitely worth the wait

Garage, jack, air tools, and some beer. It's all you need. I'll do mine myself. Did my Tundra myself a few years back and that was a PITA.

Putting those front spacers in/on the TRD coilovers is not going to take any less time. Looks like everything needs to come out and get taken apart for the lower spacer to be installed, no?

I didn't read the full description and assumed it was s simple spacer plate lift in the front. Thanks for the clarification.
