What would you change on the 5th gen?

Really taking a hard look at purchasing a 2010 or 2011 Trail. From what I've seen these trucks are well built and overall very solid.

To play devil's advocate, if you could change anything on the 5th gen what would it be? Any dislikes?

I've owned a 3rd gen before and it was a blast!

I don't own one, but I did test drive one. Do any of them come with automatic lights? Maybe it was just the SR5 I had overnight.

If they don't, that's what I would change. Either that or a V8 option.

Personally I think it's lacking in the technology department. My buddy has a 2013 Explorer and it has a full color HUD for the instrument cluster, where the only analog gauge is the speedo. You can choose to show a variety of info on the other screens, or a digital tach if you so choose. It also has a higher resolution screen for the nav/stereo and syncs better with your phone.

Meanwhile my 2014 4Runner has an instrument cluster that looks like it could be from 2002, and the head unit/nav looks like it came from my bosses' 2005 Acura.

Obviously that wasn't a dealbreaker for me, since I ended up buying the truck and am satisfied in every other way, but I feel like Toyota is behind the times when it comes to technologies developed/greatly improved in the last 10 years that have made their way into many other new vehicles.

Google and apple car apps instead of entune
KDSS available on a limited trim
V8 option

Really everything offered in the foreign version of the same base vehicle: the Land Cruiser Prado. It has all the tech we want and a lot more - like 6 camera surround view, etc. I just want all the tech available on the cheapest model Toyota sells and I'd be happy. At least give us that!

I'd like to see a ctr diff on the Trails. Auto headlights is something I would not want and if Toy puts them on all 4runners without the option to delete it... I would stop buying 4runners.

Climate control (I never knew how much I liked my 2008 Sport)
Display above audio screen rather than inside speedo
Boot around 4Wheel controls is cheap
Rear Cargo light placement is awful - lighting is terrible
No rear cargo compartment/enclosure
No lower dash stash drawer...everything goes in console or glove box

Lots of little crap that drives me nuts from owning prior 4Runners. They basically cheaped out in many departments while jacking up the price.

the tires and the entune system. everything else is just fine. I bought my 4Runner for its ruggedness and reliability, not the amenities. I'm enjoying my truck.

There is usually just an auto setting on the stalk, you don't have to use it.

Mine doesn't have auto headlights. Are you sure you don't just keep them on all the time? If you do that, they do power off when you shut the car off. But that's different from auto headlights.

I almost ordered a TRDPro but the auto headlights was the deal breaker and I went with the Trail Premium. Probably not a big issue to delete but idk, I didn't want the hassle.
Have you looked into eliminating yours?
