Whats a good price for a tow line/rope?

Pay for a good one. This one is in the $40 range:

I wouldn't get anything below 30k lb capacity. Also good idea to have D rings and/or D ring for hitch unless your strap comes with hooks.
I've always wanted to try one of these (as seen on top gear):

Straps can be found lots of places, online of course or since you are in KY, Tractor Supply has some decent ones.

I actually haven't gone in a while but when I do usually down near the Gorge/Slade area. Most of the time I spend down there though now is riding along in my buddy's Jeep (I love the 4Runner, but it wouldn't keep up with what he is doing unless I got a lift). I'm down in MS for most of this year so I'm hoping to find some trails around here.

You don't want a strap with hooks on it. Those can be dangerous.
Are you looking for a tow strap or a snatch strap? One is more elastic than the other.

A forged strap hook is usually just as strong as a tie or loop on a frame which is often what people hook to, if either gives way you better have your head down. The only time there is a significant upgrade in saftey is when you use a loop end strap around a frame member or axle. Also always drape a blanket or heavy coat over and tie strap or cable, it acts as a parachute to slow down the 100mph object as it goes thru the rear window
If you are looking for a strap for recovery you probably won't find one with a hook. Usually hooks will be on straps designed for towing. I do use d rings on my straps when I do recovery. They can launch just like a hook can.
In my experience cheaper straps will rot and wear quick esp. if exposed to mud. Even a good strap will deteriorate over time.
Whatever strap you get keep it clean as you can.
Recovery can be dangerous if you don't use you head.
I have broken a few straps in my day. I have a back pack I keep my pulley, shackles and other recovery equipment in. I will always hook that on whatever I am using for recovery. Doing this will keep things from flying, other than a little noise it is pretty unspectacular when they break.
As for a good price, 60 - 80 bucks maybe?

I picked this one up at Harbor Freight just to have in case of an emergency. Obviously not the highest of quality, but a whole lot better than nothing.

I wish I could find a nice quality 10-15ft strap with hooks. I already have a 3"x30' snatch strap with loops to use with D rings. A lot of the time, if you are just helping someone out in the snow, I think a much smaller tow strap with hooks will make the job a lot faster/easier.
