I looked through websites looking for an answer, its probably something really obvious that I'm not seeing. Any takers?

Originally "Sport Ralley 5 Speed," now just a generic term for the first-level upgrade trim package.

Note that the fourth-generation 4Runner starts with the SR5 level (which was an upgrade on previous generations), because for a $30K SUV, there's just certain things that have to be standard (power locks, windows, remote keyless entry, power mirrors, cruise control, tilt-wheel, etc.)...

I remember seeing the SR5 as a upgrade in cars like the Corolla in the 70's. That is when a manual 4 speed was standard and with the Sport Ralley 5 speed, you got a 5 speed and a few other items, like a day night mirror (wow).

On the third gen. 4Runner SR5's came with a V6 instead of the standard 4 cyl. a upgraded radio and a few other things. Now the SR5 is as low as they go in the 4Runner. The "SR5" is basically a Toyota thing, it is not found on other makes.
