MPG has actually been a disappointment to me. My previous vehicle was a 2004 Tacoma with a 3.4, 5 speed, a high-rise topper and a carpet kit in the back. Although I knew I'd lose a bit of MPG due to going to an auto, I figured the lighter weight of my 4runner would offset it.
Best tank so far was around 18.5, that was highway. Worst was 14.5, which included 4-6 hours of low-range 4-wheeling (Red Cone and Webster Pass.) I barely broke 200 miles on the tank before my low fuel light was on! :jaw drop:
My MPG typically blows because I have a very short commute - like 1 mile to the train station.
Will be taking a long trip to the mountains this weekend, hope to get a better idea of "real world" MPG.
After I've done enough long trips to figure out what my real MPG is, I'll start looking into possible mods. Tires are near the top of the list but I'm too cheap to buy new tires while my current ones still have lots of tread left.
