Nice. Very nice. I've always been a fan of the Busa. The ZX12-R and Busa are in a league of their own (of course now the ZX-14 is in that category for Team Green).
Your choice in pipes tells me that like me, you don't compromise. Akrapovic is the top dog in pipes bar none IMO. They ain't cheap, but like they say "Speed costs money son. How fast you want to go?". ;-)
I think the thing most non-sportbike people don't understand is how much HP these things are capable of. Power to weight a modern sportbike (or hyperbike in our case) easily outclasses any uber-sports car in the market. Easily. They do demand respect though, for sure.
I have a couple buddies that still have their '00 ZX-12R's. They will likely keep them for the rest of their lives.
At the risk of a minor thread detour, I can't resist talking about bikes. The current 2012 and newer ZX-14R is a great choice if someone wants to leave a bike stock, or maybe just add an exhaust system and a reflash of the ECU. I have a couple friends that own '12 and up ZX-14R's.
The Suzuki is still such a great platform to build on, as the aftermarket is huge, and the engine is more conducive to major mods.
Rather than adding another big roadburner, like I was considering with a ZX-14R, I opted for a '15 BMW S1000RR. It's a nice comparatively sedate bike with 185 rwhp stock (according to one test I read), approx. 140 lbs less weight than the current ZX-14R and 'Busa, and heated grips and cruise control.
Anyway that is Igor's (Akrapovic) Ti Evolution exhaust system. I think it's been discontinued, because as you mentioned people generally don't/didn't want to spend that much on an exhaust system. I cringe when I think about having more in the engine, than the bike cost new. But opening the throttle makes any regrets disappear. :heh:
Some of the mods:
Falicon billet forged stroker crank.
Millenium overbored and nikasiled block
Crower Ti rods
MTC high comp bigger bore pistons
Web Cams
Ferrea Ti valves, retainers, and performance springs
Cylinder head massaged by me
Fast by Gast undercut trans
CBR1100XX injectors (they have a higher flow rate than stock 'Busa injectors)
ARP fasteners
Quickshifter
Modded ECU with restrictions removed, and raised rev-limiter with separate fuel and ignition maps for pump gas or race gas
A few odds and ends
Suspension massaged with Race Tech internals.
Braided steel brake lines, and Galfer pads.
It's great fun on a straight or twisty road, or on a roadrace track. People always seem surprised that a 'Busa can handle. Since so many are turned into dragracing bikes, or blinged-out show bikes, they think that's all they can do.
Just a little bike porn:
Here's a couple of Land Speed Racing Turbo Busa's which I worked on at Bonneville for the owner. With big boost, they made big power. The owner even had them licensed for the street in his State. Of course with stock lighting (and brakes in the case of the black bike) in place, when street ridden. Both bikes were geared for 290 mph, but aero drag and the resulting wheelspin on the low-traction Salt, limited the speed they could run.
This bike made 615 rwhp on VP Import fuel, and held the SCTA/BNI record in the 1350 MPS/BF class for several years at a two-way average speed of approx. 247 mph.
This bike (my 3rd gen in the background) ran on Methanol, and made approx. 670 rwhp. In it's one trip to Bonneville, it had some minor issues, the condition of the Salt was also a factor, and it didn't achieve it's potential. Still it was an awesome machine.
