What's your T4Rs missing feature or annoyance??

Missing? a grab handle on the drivers side A-pillar...my pick up has it, the passenger side has it, the other Yota off-road vehicles have it...why not the runner?

Annoyance? it seems pretty prevalent - how on a $30-50K vehicle these door lock actuators fail so often...cmon toyota, just get some that DONT fail within the first 3yrs of ownership...thats' all im sayin'


Other than that...5yrs in and im still loving the experience

It's all a trade off. We add all these features we listed and these vehicles will be North of 60K. I will say I miss Heated Steering Wheel, Apple Play, & some improved gas mileage.

2. Any changes to the nav system would be good. Especially the ability to actually use it above 5 mph

My previous 2 vehicles were 3rd and 4th gen 4runners. I miss the motor that closed the rear hatch and the button on the key fob that rolled down the rear window.

Am glad I don’t have to deal with things like auto climate control, infotainment, blind spot, etc. if I needed all that stuff I would’ve bought a minivan.

Completely agree on the rear hatch from the 4th gen...

I came from a 2012 Jeep Wrangler with a 2" lift.

What I don't miss is:

13 MPG
Uncomfortable cloth seats
Hanging on for dear life in the wind.
No 1st gear (something to do with the lift)
Struggling to tow my teardrop
Crappy radio.

For me, the 2018 TRD Off Road is a big step up. Heated seats, nice radio, decent MPG, tows my teardrop well and a locking rear differential.

Three things we miss/would like to have;

1. Remote Start (just have a Sr5 Premium)
2. Tap to turn signals, mentioned before but I love them on my GMC and the wife misses hers coming from her GMC.
3. Manual transmission would make it a lot more fun.

Automatic climate control - My 04 sport had it. Why doesn't my 17 ORP have it?

Same trim line - going back in time to manual 3 knobs.

I really miss it. Set it and forget it. No constant fiddling as conditions change.

Just a few things coming from a 2006 VW GLI
1: HID Headlights
2: tap to turn with single sided parking lights.
3: wipers that automatically slow down when u come to a stop.
4: heavier doors, the doors just feel too light. Doesn’t have that solid feeling.
5: Gauge Cluster navigation.

Wipers that stop when you stop is the best. I miss my 2010 MK6 with AFS headlights and the wiper feature among other VW quirks. Not a huge deal though

I’m not big on all of the new technologies that have come out in the recent years. I purchased my 2018 in hopes to get a brand new 4Runner before these new features were added. As long as I have my 4WD, Heat, A/C and radio, I’m happy. I guess I do miss my stereo with Apple Play that I put in my 2010 4Runner. The only other thing would be if Toyota could figure out a way to make the rear passenger windows fingerprint proof. My daughters have the ability to draw elaborate pictures on them. I think they are trying to drive me insane!

I just don't get this feeling. Just made a 5 hour drive in wind so bad I lost 2mpg and barely noticed it power wise. Now I looked like a was drunk trying to keep it on the road. Lol

Don't get me wrong it's no power house but I think it's adequate. My other driver is 725hp so I know the different but I guess I just don't expect it to be powerful.

No TPMS read out and no TPMS for spare - really? Since the spare is mounted with the valve stem up - it's impossible to read without lowering; so this is the one you would want above the others. Sure you could probably flip spare over, but rim is subject to damage.

Headlights on during the day dims the dash lights making some hard to see like the compass, clock and fuel range. More adjustment in dim control is needed.

Access to settings via techstream and hard copy or CD maint manual should come with vehicle.

I wish my 2018 Pro came with a decent factory stereo. A sunroof. I wanted a sunroof and negotiated for one with a Toyota warranty. Digital tire pressure readout.

My wife has a 2018 Highlander with a lot of creature comforts that I didn't think I would want...but

Blind spot indicator
Single touch blinker (whatever you call it,where it blinks 3 times)
Heated seats
Laser cruise control (I don't drive too far where I would need this so not a biggie)
Push button start, would like remote since I do not get garage privileges.
Android Auto/CarPlay, may toss in that 9" Alpine Halo...but will see if there is any retroactive for when Toyota finally has it OEM.

Pretty all of mine have already been mentioned.

Here’s you go, 30sec fix As long as your 4Runner has the wiring pre-ran to the dummy sensor on top of the dash.

I don’t understand power complaints either. My 2019 accelerates more than quickly enough for me, and I’m sure it’ll at least go 95mph, if not more. I understand wanting more speed, but I don’t understand wanting to go 100+ in a 4Runner.

1. Tap for 3 flash turn signal
2. Auto headlamps
3. Dual zone climate control

Would be nice:
1. Apple CarPlay
2. Heated steering wheel
3. HUD
4. Adaptive radar cruise control


Features I really like that it does have:
1. Heated side mirrors
2. Comfy, heated, durable Softex seats
3. Hydraulic power steering feel (no numb-to-the-world EPS)

Larger fuel tank and lack of 3 party options the make this mod myself. I mean come on...there only a few millions of these rigs running around, they would sell enough in the first month to Make a buck.

I also mis a real tail gate. Not a lift hatch. TAIL GATE.
