Wheel bearing hub replacment help

My wheel bearing on my front passenger side is going out and I decided to do the job myself. I researched how to do the job and I felt pretty comfortable about doing it myself. So I bought a hub assembly unit and started the job yesterday and I can not get the hub off. Ive been beating the hell out of it with a hammer and chisel all day today and it has only came out about 1/8"... Im out of options on how to get it off.. It seems like its coming out, but just extremely difficult to get it to budge. So im asking for any help.

I had the same issue on my 5th Gen- same parts.

You are gonna need to hit the end of the axle to push it through the hub a little bit- most likely it's just a bit of rust in there.

Put the axle nut back on there (loosely) to protect the threads and then smack it with a 5 lb hammer. Try not too get to crazy with it- but I had to hit mine pretty hard a few times and then I was good.

Make sure you replace the dust seal on the upright behind the hub or you will be doing this job again a year later. Ask me how I know this...

Agree with above suggestion, might also put a little pressure on with a spacer between the bolts and spindle hub. One on each side for even pressure.

The shaft is loose, I can move it with my hand.
I just cant get the hub to come off..

I'd pop the lower balljoint bolts off, swing the spindle out of the way and whack the assembly from the back. You might get better results by soaking it in PB Blaster and trying to smack it from the backside at this point.
 
Yea I've been spraying it with pb blaster all day. If I remover the bolts on the lower ball joint, will I be able to hit it from the back? I was gonna try that but wasn't sure if u could or not
 
Yes you will be able to. Note... If Blackworkinc suggest something, is usually something that can be done.
As seeing where your located and the looks of your dust cover, more than likely you have a rust build up between the bearing and spindle race area. You might have to put all suggestions into play at the same time you might say.

Should be able to, then you can get the axle shaft out of the way, pull the spindle to one side, and bang on the bearing/hub (since you're replacing it all anyways) out with some wood. After you do, scrub the bore where the hub goes in and the axle so it's easier to get in.
 
from you one of your first pics it looks like you only prying from the top. the tolerances of the hub and spindle are very tight. the hub bearing has some depth to it. You need to pry for the top then pry from the bottom and keep doing this. I would also get a rent a slide hammer as a plan B.
 
once the wheel bearing hub is removed and before installing the new one make sure the mating surface for the hub and spindle are smooth and free of burs. You could have made a gouge or two with that chisel going in between them. just file them down so you get a nice flat mating area for reassembly.
