Wheel bearing symptoms

I'm hearing a very faint high pitched whine when driving at freeway speeds. Is this a wheel bearing going bad noise or something else?

Does the noise go away if you turn slightly left or right? If so, it's probably a wheel bearing.

One way to check is,jack the truck up and get one wheel off the ground and grab the front tire and pull at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock position and see if there is any movement...it's also another way to check for bad ball joints.

Pulling the tire at the 3 and 9 o'clock position...you can check for tie rod play.

But either way there shouldn't be any significant movement...preferably none.

Last thing you can do is with the tire off the ground,just spin the tire/wheel and listen if there is any metallic grinding noise.

When i had to replace mine on my 4X4 I had no movement at all but knew they were bad, this might work for the 2WD but not 4WD

Wheel was loose on my 4x4 when I had a bad bearing.

I have 57K miles on my 08 4runner and sounds/feels like I have a bad wheel bearing on the front passenger side. I will check this weekend if there is any play in the wheel. But, with only 57K, doesn't it seem too soon for wheel bearings to go bad? I only do highway driving. just makes me mad because I know it's going to cost big $$!!!
