Wheel bearings go bad?

have any of you had your wheel bearings go back and replace them? i know a couple guys did.. it's still under factory warranty let alone my 100k certified warranty.. what were the noises you'd hear? there's no play in my wheels but i'm hearing a slight grinding noise at 40ish speed.. when i'm on the highway and there is a load i can feel it in the steering wheel (i put my OEMwheels and tires on for the road trip) if the highway isn't perfectly flat (some have a slight grade to the left in the left lane and to the right in the right lane) then i make up for it as normally i would with steering i can fell the grinding a lil bit more (basically when the steering wheel isn't in a neutral position)

so does this sound like wheel bearings?

Could be. I had a rear wheel bearing go bad in my 98 Tacoma. It was very apparent when I would make a hard turn at speed and lean to the affected side. My problem was on the driver's side so right turns made it very loud. When I jacked up the problem wheel and spun it, the noise was very prominent. I would try doing this with the wheel you think may have the bad bearing. It should make an obvious "grinding" sound if the bearing is that bad.
 
i don't think the bearing is THAT bad yet.. i just have a thing for hearing things in the early stages, so i wanna get it taken care of.. i'm gonna be getting an oil change so i'll have Toyota check them and i may go and do it myself with a stethoscope LOL (i used to work there)
 
Heavier bigger tires, different offset wheels, wheel spacers, water crossings, excessive dusty environments will all accelerate wheel bearing wear. An astute service manager will deny, and rightly so, wheel bearing warranty if they notice any of these additional mods or environmental issues.

the stock wheels are on and they can't deny warranty work when the vehicle is doing what it is made for. I WILL get it warrantied
 
What 1Engineer mentioned about tires. As the larger all terrain/mud terrain tires wear, you will hear increased noise drone from them while rolling. I was convinced I had bad wheel bearings and had them changed out along with the hubs(definitely not needed but I said F it) but had come to the conclusion that it was in fact the worn tires. Just double check.

yea i was hoping it was just the tires.. but driving 1500 miles on the oem rims n tires proved that to not be the reason, it still did it.
 
Mine made the growling noise starting at 40 mph. It turned out to be the driver side rear bearing. I did both passenger and driver side bearings. I could tell water had got into both of them at one point when I pressed them off. I had gone through some pretty deep water about 3 months before that.

Check, check, check, check, and check. Guess that's why I've had both my front wheel bearings replaced already.

Had mine replaced under warranty at two different dealerships.

We had one, but he was executed by Corporate; made everyone in all the lands from the customers to the technicians happy and feeling like they mattered... and thus the evil Corporate could no have that and summarily executed the mythical Unicorn.

Same thing happened at the Ford dealers in 03-04ish. However I know where a couple are still at.
 
The rear wheel bearings went out on my 2012 limited at 30k. Never been off road or in water etc. I caught hell with the service department for weeks before thy replaced them under warranty. Haven't had any problems since
 
So I just thought I put this here. Passengers side wheel bearing is doneso. There're asking $677.00+ for the repair. Truck has 117,457 miles on it.
 
had the driver side front replaced.. still have noise so i'm dropping it back off today to do the passenger side front bearing/hub too.
 
just picked up the truck from having my passenger front wheel bearing done and the problem is solved!! my service writer told the tech i'd be back for the rears if this didn't fix it lol.
