Hi All,

Getting ready to start the new trailer build and I have a few questions for the resident "wheel experts".

A) The Trail has 17x7.5 rims with a 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern? (I'm pretty sure this yes)

B) The axle I'm odering has 1/2" dia. studs, electric brakes, and the outside of the electric hub face is approx. 10-1/4"...anyone see any hang ups here? (they did offer 5/8" dia studs which I thought would be too big. I odered special lugnuts the outside spins while the part against the rim torques down in place.

I did want to take this opportunity to say thank you to Demeaux...I bought his Trial rims and what a great guy to do business with!! He did a great job packing them, was extremely fair and shipped quickly :hatsoff:

Hi Pat,
Not sure how that's going to work. Toyota wheels ,like your TE wheels are centered by a 106mm hub on the axle that mates up with a 106mm bore hole in the rim. The hub part sticks out by about 1/4 on the axle. If you take one of your wheels center caps off ,you will see it and it's 106mm(4.17 inches) across.

The hub not only centers the wheel but is also load bearing,meaning the weight of the truck is on the hub and not on the lugs.That is why they are called hub centric.
Where the lug nuts go on a factory TE rim ,the holes are not conical to center it like aftermarket rims that are called lug centric and have conical holes . Meaning the lugs and nuts center them and are load bearing,not the hub.

Does the hub face on the ones you are buying have a hub on it that sticks out? If it's less then 106mm, you can get adapters to make it 106mm.Wheel Hub Centric Rings - buy wheel hub rings online from 1010tires.com
Oh, and the factory studs are metric 12x1.5 .Don't you have the factory lug nuts.Let me know if you have any questions. Kinda hard to explain.

Yep, can be a pain with 2 diffrent wheel standards!Hub centric and lug centric.Google em to learn more!
Ya, He's pretty much saying the same thing. The lug nuts you bought are conical shaped at the bottom. The TE rims dont have that concave surface to match up to them so you won't get full contact area like your supposed to. Our lug nuts(his firts pic) are flat on the bottom and are just meant to hold the wheel on, not center it or bear the load. The hub centers it or else it will wobble.

Find out if you can get a axle with a hub less the 106mm with 12x1.5mm studs and use a adapter. No adapter needed if you can find one that is 106mm.
Like for instance ,6x5.5 chevy hubs are 73.5 mm I think. So you would need adapters to go from 73.5 to 106mm.

I wonder if I can get the studs changed from the factory to fit the Toyota lug nuts. If not he had some listed there. I just ordered it today so if I call Monday morning for some more info and cancel the Dexter lug nuts.

I thought I had my setup down pat but I am thinking that I could use hub rings as well. The lugs dont have much play within the wheel so the wheel is very close to being centered but I dont think that my hubs are hub centric at all. Are there rings made to go from lug centric to hub centric with the correct diameter or do they just help change the diameter of the hub centric portion on the hub? Make sense?

If I understand the way Harper is describing it...the wheel is centered on the hub, as he says, we may have to find the right sixe diameter to provide the exact fit.

The second post down has a link of different sizes...some how, some way we're gonna get through this...lol

On the new build, I'm getting rid of the military axle, mostly because I wanted to eliminate the surge brakes..I don't hink they're approved here in NY. Soooooo...if I'm going through that...... I might as well make the wheels match for a more complete look.

It'll be worth it. All in all, the parts are all cheap. The lug nuts are $20 and the lug studs will be about $15. I like the idea of having one spare on trips. If you happen to blow out two, take one off the trailer and leave it til you can get back to it.

The hub that I have is lug centric (no cone on the hub face to seat the wheel on). What I would need is a ring that is meant to go on a hub with a flat face with the correct inner diameter and a cone hub face that is 106 mm to fit my Toyota wheels. It sounds like you will need the same thing. I don't have my trailer right now as it is at the fab shop getting a lid made for it so I can't measure the diameter of the hub itself. I did find these:

Looks like you can get 54.1 mm, 78.1 mm, 87.1mm and 100.6 mm inner diameter rings with a 106 mm outer diameter. Hopefully my hub is one of those sizes.

Here is another option for you all. Spidertrax spacers are hub centric on the outside where it bolts to the rim and hub and lug centric where it bolts to the axle. You could bolt it on the hub on your trailer and it has a hub centric outer to match your TE rims. They cost $99 a pair though and are 1.25" thick. Here are a couple of pics for ya.
It comes with the smaller tapered nuts in the pic. The bigger lug nut is the right one for the TE rims and you will have to buy them or ask Demeaux if he will sell his.

The Spidertrax spacers are worth their weight in gold (which is a good thing because they are pretty heavy). I ran these for about a year until I upgraded to new wheels. Check my write up if you need any clarification...

this is all too darn confusing. here is a pic for hub centric...

Hub Centric vs

the weight of truck is all on the hub/stud assembly. conical lugs for non hub centric (ie, lug centric), mag lugs for stock or hub centric rims.
