Wheel size question.

Well about a week ago I decided to order wheels for my runner with out doing much research like the idiot I am. Anyways, I ordered 17x9 with 0mm offset...

So I got the wheels into day noticed how wide they were and decided to do some research for a change. Come to find out most people are running 17x8 and even when they do run 17x9 its with -6 offset. So as I enter panic mode I run to my garage to test fit the wheels. With the wheels mounted flush, they clear the UCA fine from what I can tell. The problem is I can only check them with the suspension at full droop( Not to mention the radflo lift doesn't help much).

So My question is should I be worried about the wheels clearing the uca when the vehicle is setting level?

What year is your 4Runner and what size tire are you planning to run. Also, how much lift do you have?

I have an 04 4th gen with 2.5 inches of lift up front and about the same in back.

Well I originally wanted to run cooper ST Maxx 255/80/r17 but the wheel specs say 8.5 rim width max. I have done some research and found people running the 255 on 9 inch rim with out any problem. I even PM'd "Raz4back" over at tacoma world who runs a 255/75r17 on 17x9's with no problem. If I can, I would rather have the 255/80.

Witch brings me to my other choice 285/75/r17 in Nitto Terra Grappler. The only thing I don't like about this tire is how wide it is. I would rather have a tall skinny tire.

So Should I risque it for the biscuit and put the ST Maxx 255 on the 9" rim or bite the bullet and run the 285?

For your 9" wide wheels we'd recommend sticking with a tire that is approved for that wide of a wheel. In the long run, it will help you get the most out of your tires and it reduces your chances for tire failure.

In terms of fitment, 285/75R17 and 255/80R17 are both large tires, you'll likely need to make some modifications in the front with either of these sizes to keep them from rubbing. If you are looking for more of a bolt up and go set up I'd recommend looking into the 285/70R17 size instead.

Thanks, I think I am going to look into 285/70r17. Any body have any experience with these vs 285/75r17 for daily driving?
