Wheel Spacers for First Gen/auto hubs

I would like to add some wheel spacers to my 1988 4RUnner 4WD with Automatic hubs. I have found that these were lug centric in 1988 ? Also, does anyone know if a 2" spacer will work with the Automatic hubs? I am looking to get a wider stance without buying new tires, etc.

Spacers wont affect the automatic hubs at all.

But if your going two inches you need a wheel adapter and not a spacer.

How deep can I go using just a wheel spacer ?

Not sure exactly how wide you can get with a spacer. But 2 inches you would definetly need a adapter.

They only make up to a 3" IIRC. Anything after that is too much leverage for the wheel bearings and starts to dramatically effect the scrub radius.

I bought this 88 4Runner a couple of months ago. It has rust on the front fenders and rear quarters. Instead of dumping lots of cash into an old truck, I decided to cover the rust with BushWacker flares. Now the stock size tires look smallish of course. I am a little cash strapped right now and can't afford tires and rims. SO I decided to install wheel spacers at least "fill out" the flare some. A two inch adapter will bring the stock 235's within an inch of the outside of the flare. I just couldn't see throwing thousands of dollars into a $1500 truck.
