Wheel vibration at 60 to 65 MPH

Had this same problem on my FJ. At speeds in between 60 to 65 MPH there is a wheel vibration that causes the steering wheel to shimmy. Best way to describe the feeling is an out of balance wheel. On my FJ the problem was never actually fixed completely. Having the wheels road forced balanced reduced the effect to a tolerable level. I always just assumed it was due to the larger and heavier tires I ran on the FJ.

With the 4Runner its a different story, the truck is all stock with only 400 miles on it so the vibration should not be happening. I'm going to the dealer today to have them look at it and I'm insisting on road force balancing the wheels. Hopefully it's something stupid like a defective tire or out of balance wheel.

I've had the same issue with mine since new. I actually work in service at a Toyota dealer and I've tried everything. Now I just don't drive between 60-65 n the problem is gone. The shake happened stock then with the bfgs and now still with the new tire n wheel setup

That's not good to hear and unacceptable to me. I did not spend almost 40k to have to deal with a wheel vibration problem. I'm hoping my dealer can fix it. I'll let you know how things turn out.

Back from the dealer. They road forced balanced all four wheels and found the front passenger side wheel was out of balance. It was off by .5oz. Now the truck is rock solid with zero vibration. Ride is smooth as glass. I'm super stoked as I'm getting ready to upgrade my wheels and tires and didn't want to do it until this issue was resolved.

I gotta double check mine tomorrow when I do a 46 mile ride on the highway. The new wheels n tires just got put on Tuesday and I could have sworn the wheel shook but maybe it was just me getting use to it haha. I'll let you know tomorrow morning

I have the same issue. 3k miles on my 2015 TE and it shakes from 55-65. I've had 2 balances and it still does it. I plan on getting a road force balance ASAP

Do the road force balancing definitely. They also found that the rear drivers side had excessive run out although it wasn't out of spec by much. It would seem to me that the balancing from the factory isn't that accurate.

WTERunner, thanks for posting this. I got my 4Runner about 3 weeks ago and I noticed the other day my steering wheel vibrating on the interstate. I'm going to take it to the dealership and get them to do this. You didn't have to pay anything did you?

Nope, not a dime. My dealer road forced balanced all four wheels and the vibration was gone. Drives super smooth now.
