Wheeling in Pine Barrens NJ Nov 17th, 2012

Ken, if you wanted to meet somewhere to drive down together, that's fine with me. Where in NY are you? We could possibly meet at the Rockaway Mall off exit 35 on route 80. Or if you have another idea that's fine too. I'm sure a couple others could meet us too. We.could see if 2StepsAhead would, he's in Staten island, not certain if he's gonna make it yet. Hey Mike, yeah that sounds great. Im coming from Nyack area. I get on 80 at the very beginning where 80 merges into 287. I have no idea how far to exit 35 but it cant be that far. We can meet there for sure. Is it a rest stop where its right off the side of road?

You probably get on route 80 at exit 53ish? If exit 35 is too far I have no problem going somewhere else. Rockaway mall off exit 35 is just a big shopping mall, first thing that came to mind for me.

Yeah man whatever is easiest, doesnt matter to me. I have to drive down anyways so no sense in making you go out of way. If exit 35 is close thats fine. If not maybe you know a gas station service station right off 80 so we can top off. Like i said doesnt matter to me bud

I have been to certain areas of the pine barrens, I will have to look if I still have the maps. A lot of the roads showed up on my Garmin with no issue. A stock 4runner shouldnt have much of an issue is most of the areas, but always check the puddle depths out there when in doubt. There are a lot of "puddles" that are 3 or 4 feet deep and with Sandy recently hitting the areas there may be several trees down. I have to check with my work schedule to see if I can make it. If I find the maps I will post them up.

Has anybody or does anybody know what the condition of this area is after the storm? i know we are off roading so mud / water isn’t an issue but down trees blocking our path will certainly suck.

It should be cleared but I'll bring my chainsaw just in case.

My buddy lives 15-20 mins away and said its fine. Nothing but a little water.

Heading down Friday night around 5 and camping at the campgrounds we discussed before. I'd drive down with you, but no friggin way I'm chasing after you. I'm getting 20.4 MPG.

When I talked to the lady at Pine Barrens right after the storm she said some trees my be down but I'm sure by time we go there they might clean it, if not we can always pull some trees away lol

Yeah sounds good to me. I wanted to get down there around 10ish. This is a pretty big group we have lined up here. Is that restuarant big enough to allow all of our trucks to gather in their parking lot? Sounds like a stupid question but I know a group of Jeeps got kicked out of a fast food parking lot one time. Meeting place doesn't matter to me as long as we won't be causing any trouble. If you guys think it will be a problem we can find a big store nearby as well. Also, we should definitely get a confirmed list, maybe by next Thursday just so we know who is definitely coming.
