Wheels & wheel spacer opinions please

Hey All,

I have a 2015 SR5, currently running stock wheels with 1.25” spacers. They are 17x7 with +15 offset. Currently running 275/70-17 KO2.

I’m looking at a 17x8 wheel with +5 offset and 285/70-17 KO2.

I can’t get my head around how the stance will change and whether I should keep the 1.25” spacers.

Can anyone explain this to me and post pics if they have similar setups?

I *think* the answer is:

Going from 17x7 +15 to 17x8 +5 will bring the edge of the rim 0.9” farther out.

Going from 275mm to 285mm will bring the tire an additional 0.2” farther out.

This yields a tire edge that is 1.1” farther out than stock and if I keep the spacer, the outside edge of the tire would be 2.35” farther out than stock.

Am I wrong?

I'd be prepared to do some trimming going to that setup. The 285's will most likely rub the fender liner and body mount unless you've chopped it already. Although you've a good chance of rubbing with or without the spacers going to 285's and may need to do similar trimming either way. Probably just be less rubbing and easier to get dialed in without the spacers. Either way you already own the spacers and can always just pull them off

I think the plus 5 is pulling the wheel inward. You want a 17x8 or 8.5 with around -12 and no spacer with 285's

if stock are +15 then he will be pushing them out 10mm. All he needs to do is convert 1.25 to mm and that's gonna be how much farther out it is on top of the 10mm from the stock wheels. BMC is needed regardless.

Thinking out loud.......spacer is equal to -32, minus his +15 is -17.....if He drops the spacer and goes -12 on new wheel He is 5 narrower than with spacer and stock wheel so He may not need BMC and if He does it takes 20 minutes with a sawzall in the driveway and He still gets rid of the spacer which is a plus!

KO2s are bony even in 285/70R17 if you want a nice stance get some wheels with a -10 offset or higher and some meaty mud terrains.
