When I do retire my 4th gen and upgrade

I jumped into the world of Toyota about a year ago when I bought my '03 Limited with 240,000 miles, and I'm never going back. My wife and I are slowly working our way into the exciting world of overlanding (we're still in the wishful thinking stage) and are looking to the future. We want to one day do Alaska and The Yukon. By the time life gives us a chance to do something like that, I don't think my current rig will be up for the challenge, and I will need to upgrade. My wife loves the newer 5th gens and her next DD will likely be a '15 Limited. My question is; what will transfer from my truck to a newer 5th gen? Locker, bumpers, suspension, etc..?

I am waiting for the Tundra Cummins before I retire my daily!!!! Or when the timing chain goes, what ever comes first lol.
 
Interesting question.
I had initially "upgraded" from my new 1st gen '88 SR5 4Runner 360,000km, to a new '98 Ltd. 3rd gen 531,000 km and last month to a used 4th gen '06 Ltd with 180,000 km. I figure I'm in this one for another decade before "upgrading" again to a 6th gen?

It's not the high mileage I'm worried about, I'm at 252k right now and am in the middle of packing for a 6k miles trip to Canada. It's not my DD, so I'm only putting about 6-8k a year on it. My wife will be looking to upgrade her DD soon. She currently has a '10 Xterra (that I hate for no real good reason) with 180k. She wants to get into a 5th gen 4Runner. I figure I've got about 4-5 more years with my 4th gen before I'll be ready to get rid of it. At this point, she'll get a newer one and I'll take hers. With all this in mind, I'm having a hard time buying anything for my 4th gen that I know I won't be able to take off and reuse.

Retire it NOW, i'll tell you why. Air pump will eventually blow on you, it just happened to me on a 2005 Sport Limited V8. $2,000 repair. I found out this is a very common problem for 4runners and trucks from this time period. So much so, Toyota Corp (not the dealer) offered me a $2k reimbursement check towards a new 4Runner, after i called and pointed out all the complaints online regarding this issue.

I am in the process of buying a new 2016 Limited. After i fixed it, I sold it immediately to CarMax for $10,000. I plan on taking Toyota up on their $2k offer.

I thought that was an issue with the VVT engines. I do all the work myself anyhow, I would only be out parts if anything goes wrong.

Or you could just get the bypass and never have the system operate again.

OP has a 2003 so it's a non issue anyway.

$45 and this problem is solved forever. so save yourself the trouble and headache and install the bypass from SLYFOX. its about a 5minute process.

Never heard of this issue? Is this a v6 only or v6 and v8 problem??

Yeah I know I have been keeping an eye on mine, makes me nervous, and I still don't know what to think if that was to occur what I would do. Hopefully I don't have to cross that bridge!
