Right? 90 days? what does that say when their other products let alone the 5100 are lifetime warranty? This is what i found on their website.

I've seen that too, and now myself included. this sucks big time. didn't get much life out of it. Now, if they don't cover this, the question is what will/should i do. Waste more $$ on a product that may fail me again or find me another product...
If/when this happens to me I am not going to buy 5160s again. I already see a very small amount of fluid from the union joints of both of mine but luckily it hasn't gotten worse. There again I haven't put mine thru the paces like you have. I don't know what to get that will match the 6112 as well as the 5160s. I am surprised the TRD Pro rear shocks aren't having similar issues as they are cut from the same cloth.
I wonder if we should involve Total Perf Automotive and leverage their weight as a volume buyer to plead our cause???

Can you give us some input on the situation at hand?
This issue seems to be higher than the "norm", being so many here on the T4R.ORG sighthare are having issues with leakage on the 5160' Bilstiens.
A lot of us purchased this combo from you, your insight/:help: would be greatly appreciated!

I have not had this issue on my 5160's, and hope I don't.
Since this came up, and we have continued to see this issue arise on said shocks, I thought I would reach out to you as I stated, this appears to be happening with a high number vs installs just from members on this site.
I wondered if there was any input to Bilstein TotalAutomotiveLV could make on our behalf.....

From what I can tell, the people who are having the issues with the 5160's are running 2" or more of rear lift via springs. I know they are rated for 0-2" of lift but 2" I bet is a max number with out getting something with more travel from Icon, Fox, etc.
Saker I doubt you will have those issues with yours at its current height.

I'm inclined to agree. Shocks have a certain amount of travel built into them, and when you throw lifts into the equation you can push the shock to the limits of its travel. [MENTION=107460]Magnetic4R[/MENTION] is running Icon Overland which is probably a 2.5-3" spring at rest. Since he has the 3rd row it might be lower but that may have played a large factor still. FWIW I have been running the TRDP 5160 for about 20k miles on Superflex 2" springs without any issues.

Yup, 3rd row, drawers, roof rack, rtt.
I had initial concern with that before I ordered the Icon coil but they assure me that it wasn't an issue and it was ok. I'm sure it may or may not be a contribution to its failure but putting a 90days warranty (which I overlooked) on a product vs their lifetime warranty product doesn't give the customer much confidants. We will see what Bilstein says.

Can you see where the oil is coming from? Is it the cap on the bottom or the resi hose?

well, this is a bummer. Looks like i may have to purchase a single replacement shock or find a better rear matching set to go with he 6112. I hope they sell a single shock vs. a pair. This is the reply i received:

Not sure if you can tell from the picture. Let me pull the boot off later when i get home and check.
I don't have these, but was starting to determine what shocks to buy, and this just killed it for me. Looks like I'd rather spend less money on the tried and true 5100s...

Sooooooo Wife likes the 6112/5160 combo on her mall crawler. I liked the ride so much was thinking about getting another set for my FJ. However, with this development, I'll be looking at other brands and no longer recommending this setup. I only got the lifetime warranty part of the sales pitch (6112s) and never notified of the paltry 60 day warranty on the 5160s (who even does that?).

Any recommendation on where to get a single shock replace? Since Bilstein is not going to cover under warranty, I was hoping maybe they consider providing a discount or at cost/invoice to help out the situation as 90 days is pretty lame. It's either I replace 1 5160 or 2 5100s for about the same price. What u guys think?

oh well on the 90 day warranty, i've had around 16 months of no issues with 6112s/5160s with stock rear springs, and then around 9 months with 6112s/5160s with SAW 1.5" coils (which for the record added around 2-2.5" of lift in the rear). When i added the SAW coils i moved the circlip on the 6112s up to the 4th groove when counting from the bottom up.
Currently im looking to beef up my front coils, is anybody running OME coils on the 6112s? I have added a SSS hybrid bumper (~75lbs), a superwinch with synthetic line (~60lbs), full shrockworks skids (adding an estimated 45ish lbs directly to the front springs) and i have more weight going up front with another battery planned and a ARB dual compressor. I want to buy a front spring to fit around my 6112s that will give me 2.5ish inches of lift and be done with it for a WHILE.
current weight estimate: 180lbs
planned weight additions: 90lbs
50lbs battery & 20lbs compressor, air tank, & mount and i'm adding 20lbs of fudge room in here
i can definitely tell after i put the winch and skids on that there is some drooping in the front and i want to gain some lift back in the front. Looking for suggestions on the spring i need to work for me, as well as what groove does my circlip need to be in when i put the spring on to get me the desired lift back. because i DO NOT want to have to pull out the shock once its reinstalled just to change the circlip setting. at that rate i might as well get an adjustable front coilover via spanner wrench and save myself the trouble...
any suggestions?

with this new information coming to light about the 90day warranty i would go with 5100s if you keep the 6112s in front.

That Is very disappointing to hear. The "lifetime" warranty is why I went with Bilstein to begin with. I had several discussions with reps from Bilstein and other sales associates and not once was it brought to my attention about a 90 day warranty.
