Did you see the condition of my frame (3 years and 23,000 miles)??? :wtf: Condensation in recess is not my first concern..........


You could always apply a thin layer of clear RTV Silicon around the inside of cap, then slide them on...........that would make it 100% waterproof!


You could also do a rear differential breather style mod.......call it "Rear Shock Reservoir Breather Mod", install a plastic hose into each cap (seal with RTV), then route lines into rear quarters of interior............ :hiding:

Got my caps in and on....
I used Acetone to remove the white paint from them.
First photo of the top of the reservor is after getting wiped off, second one is treated with some 3 in 1 oil.....

Fit very tight, they won't vibrate or fall off!

Nice. I may do that even though mine are mounted nipple side up. I just changed the braided cable to the other side of the shock and like it there a lot. I just drove through a blizzard over the Eisenhower tunnel and was sloshing in torrential rain all the rest of the way to Steamboat. I do not see the rust you are seeing but like covering the reservoir.

Going up Buffalo pass depending on weather tomorrow.

6112/5160 Update

Just got back from a wet, soggy and muddy Steamboat Springs Colorado. Lots of snow mixed with rain at the higher elevations and Buffalo Pass was closed. So we explored some... This pic is somewhere around Pearl lake campground.

The 6112/5160 combo was amazing on the rutted, washboard, pothole ridden, muddy and generally socially unacceptable roads to short wheel-based Jeeps... We had a blast.

The 6112's setting at 2" lift feels real good as does the Icon springs in the rear.


The steel braided cable was rerouted behind, per my post above. The line does not touch anywhere and I feel comfortable having it get muddy...

Well, after living with the stock suspension for almost 5 weeks now, my 6112/5160 system is scheduled to be installed next Thursday. I'm using the second circlip groove.

Before and after measurements and pics to follow ..

Okay, got my 6112/5160's installed last night. Went without a hitch. On the second circlip groove, I got 1 1/4 inch lift in front. The ride now feels tight and competent, as opposed to the marshmallow cream puff I had before. Glad I got to know the stock suspension first so I could see the improvement. Nose dive is greatly diminished. Got to drive it a bit this A.M., and I'm very pleased ... but, no high speed off road stuff out here, just two tracks.

So, dimensions ..

Pre install ..

LF- 34 1/2
RF- 35
LR-37
RR- 37

Post install ..

LF- 35 3/4
RF- 36 1/4
LR- 37
RR- 37 1/8

Still have 1/2 inch lean to drivers side with full tank of gas, and a few lbs. less tire pressure on driver's side. Haven't decided yet if I intend to correct it.
BTW, install front and rear, including wheel alignment was 2 1/2 hours total, including changing the top hats over. This young man knew his way around a 4Runner, and was extremely competent. As a side note, this was performed by a Toyota mechanic in the dealership's shop. Everything was right at hand.

Pretty nice of the dealership to allow their guys to make a few bucks on the side.

Anyway, I'm very happy with the entire package. and here's a few pics from this morning. Quite hot here, and the ticks are out in full force! As a matter of fact, when I opened the door to get out when I got home, a tick was crawling on the inside of the door! Little bastidge!

So, thanks to all that went before me. Your knowledge was invaluable! I wanted to look like [MENTION=121322]'15WeissRhino[/MENTION]'s rig, and I'm very close!

Pretty much what everybody has posted so far. Without sagging/settling yet I got 2.75" on the 4th notch up front and approx 2.25" with 2" Icon rear springs. Some before and after pics.

Had mine installed on my new rig Monday and immediately took it for a loop around the Olympic Peninsula for a few days of surfing and fishing. Drives noticeably better than stock and cruised through some stuff that made me nervous in my old unmodified Tacoma.



My rig came with a dealer installed 3" spacer lift that I had removed with the new suspension so I don't have a before after but mine is similar to aai's results. I have the 6112's on the 3rd (2") ring and they are paired with 5160's and OME 2" springs. With KO2 275's I'm 37.5" in the front and 39.5" in the back. I like the rake as I'm often towing a raft trailer and a load of fishing gear.
