When y'all do a Tundra 231mm brake upgrade...

We just need to upgrade our spares. Anybody got an extra Tundra wheel that is compatable with the 231? :)

I'm seeing a steel 16 inch Tundra wheel available...anybody know if that will work with the 231, or do I need to hold out for a 17?

That's what I'm afraid of, but they supposedly stopped the 199s in '03 and went up to the 231s, and some of the 16 inch wheels I'm seeing are listed for models through later years than that. Wonder if a steel 16 incher can clear where an alloy 16 incher might not? The Edmunds site showed specs for the '05 Tundra and list a 16 inch steel wheel. Who knows...

I know cross drilled/slotted etc etc rotors are nice but are they worth it?

A few threads ago "The Kid" and I went back and forth on this issue.

I have Brembo cross drilled and slotted rotors with performance pads and factory calipers. I don't have the Tundra upgrade.

I have not had any problems yet and can achieve maximum stoppage - I say that because tires will shred.

I assume the Tundra upgrade is as good or better.

After listening to what others have had to say on this issue, I have gathered that most of the advice against slotted/drilled rotors has to do with longevity. I only have 40,000 on my rotors but they have held up so far.

If you do consider that route, be sure to get the highest quality (aka Brembo) steel possible. I think if you do the Tundra upgrade then you might be fine with NAPA parts since so many here have used them without issue.

I think that's a good point, if you are going with a processed rotor that may affect durability, metallurgy becomes very important.

I'll gladly be the one to try out the Brembo cross drilled and slotted rotors, performance pads, and Tundra 231s.... However, no matter how much I'd love the stopping power and the fact I can say I have all that fancy stuff, it's way overkill. People seem to be happy with what they're getting from the auto stores. It's kind of like the E3 plugs thread started not too long ago. No point trying those when it's pretty much mixed views and everyone knows the NGK plugs work wonders. I am going to one up though and get Brembo 'blanks', mainly because I trust their parts over the generic stuff. But as for the calipers and pads, sign me up for the generic stuff!

My main issue now is figuring out what I am going to have to do to get the 231s to fit on these LC wheels. It's either grind the piss out of them or get spacers. Neither one I'm happy about doing.

I figured with the backspacing the LC wheels would fit over 231's no problem? Some OEM 16's fit without grinding, like the 5 stars, right?

it's not the backspacing, it's the way the wheels are designed.. You even have to grind them with the 199's... I can't imagine how much more you'd have to grind off for the 231s. I really don't want to go to town on my lc wheels and risk messing them up yet I absolutely hate spacers.
