When you bought your new 4Runner...

If you already know all the product info, why bother wasting his and your time asking about such things and just skip right to price negotiation?

PA's SHOULD know most of the answer's, but if you already know more than them (which isn't hard by reading sites like this), who cares what they know?? Just talk price and buy the thing!

I agree, that is a bit harsh. I would only do that if the little A hole was acting like he knew it all about the 4 runner.

On the other hand if a salesman was telling me bullshit like the hood scoop makes it corner better. I would ask him more questions just to see the dumb ass answers he would come up with.......then I would post them here..

hehehehe:rocker:

To me, they are clueless people who are just making ends meat until something better comes along job-wise and they could care less if a Corolla has a V6 or a V8. :(
There are plenty of car salespeople out there making well over $100K a year consistently....it's hardly a bottom feeder job. The one's that suck and make minimum wages get fired after a month or 2 ;)

Like i said, i dont expect them to know everything. But when they make shit up and try to pass it as fact, they really should be corrected. These are not technical questions either. I mean is "How much horsepower" a technical question? Or which ones have the hood scoop? Please.

I agree, when they say stuff like " The 4 Runner can never get stuck because it has off road gears the lock into place."

you don't have to be an enthusiast to see the BS in that claim...

I did a ton or research online.

I was sold on the 4Runner without driving it or anything else.

I used a fixed priced dealer (Carmax). I walked in with the dealer stock number, handed it to the first salesman who walked up to me. It was still in stock. I was sold.

I did test drive it. When the salesman told me to floor it with 6 miles on the ODO, "No, I'm not abusing something I'm buying."

Other than being offered an extended warranty because "A V8 cost more to fix than a V6" :bash: It was painless.

I did have to uninstall the amp and sub from my trade-in, in their parking lot, with a leatherman.

You got to cut the salesman some slack. Toyota has a ton of models with various options and packages. They can't be an expert on all of them.

Why?

I sell much more technical computer applications and I know my product and competitors products. If these guys are making over $100K consistently, or have the potential to make that income, why shouldn't they be held responsible to know their product?

I don't expect them to know what oil is in the tranny, but I do expect them to know the information on the product brochure.

Just be professional and say, "I don't know that answer, but I will find out." Instead of playing embellishment games or flat out lying.

Death to a saleman is credibility, or lack of. Without credibility, your job as a sales rep just got twice as hard.

When I was filling out the paperwork for my 4Runner I got the pitch for the extended warranty and a paint sealant. The fleet manager that was my salesman told me not to bother with either one, I didn't. The rest of the sales staff that I talked to made the big pitch to buy both. So they did get some training on the most important parts of a 4Runner, the extended warranty and the sealant. Those details are much more important than 'stuff' about the engine, transmission, how to lock the doors or work the a/c or the location of the spare tire and how to change a tire.

I helped a friend pick out a Sequoia and the salesman told us the Sequoia was better than the 4Runner because it had a bigger engine and it was a V8....what? This guy was better, he knew where the spare was but said you did not need to know how to change a flat because there were tow trucks that would do that for you. When asked where the fuses were he said we did not have to bother because the engine was computer controlled. We came back when we could get the fleet guy and he handled everything. So that was two sales for knowing the product and the finances.

And when I was a Toyota PA I knew (and still know) the products very well too. There are good and bad examples in every industry.....I can't count the number of times I've talked to useless computer techs, school teachers, real estate agents, investment bankers, insurance agents, police, etc etc. Same shit, different pile....there are stupid people all over the planet.

You can't have expectations based on potential income.

If you don't like being fed BS, don't stand there and eat it.

Being professional works both ways, "Is there someone more knowledgable to answer my question?"

The sales dept. is reflective of the entire dealership. If they suck, don't do business with them.
