I cut the fuel pump off while it was running. Nothing happened but the truck shut off
I can't say it is recommended but I don't see where it would cause any ill effects.

What's the worst that can happen ? Curious ? Any mechanical issues ? ( it was just a test to see if it's working properly )
Honestly, nothing is different than the case of starting with pump not powered. The engine runs, and then dies of fuel starvation. The worst I can think of is what happened to the BMWs I referred to, where the pump can't force the fuel to the injectors and won't restart without being bled. And as I said, I've never heard that about our engines.
