Where do I install a fuel pump Kill Switch?

If you are worried about someone driving off with your truck you can do something that wont cost you a dime. Cover the VIN in the windshield. A smart thief will have a buddy in a dealship parts dept to make them a key. All you need is the VIN for a vehicle and the dealer can reproduce your keys for you, or someone else.

Don't know what to tell you. He put a kill switch on the fuel pump ckt, and twice found his Bronco broken into with a dead battery, presumably from a prospective thief cranking the starter. No dome lamp on an EB, lights weren't on, I don't know what else would have drained it.

Well, I guarantee it wasn't the starter. The dome lamp will stay lit reasonably well long after the starter only gets you clicks. So something else drained it dead. Or was it just too weak to crank?

As I said, I assume it was the live ignition circuit. The exhaust sensor heaters each draw several amps.

There are so many ways to disable one of these engines.

Yes my point as well, for me I'm looking for ways to discourage theft of my vehicle while in the back woods on a hike. I have a club, and would like to do a fuel kill as well. Whenever I'm in the back country I always try and park in a way that I can get a little speed going to pop the clutch if ever I come back to a dead battery. Freaked me out a little when I went to get a key for my pickup. My key wore down so bad that it wouldn't turn in the ignition. Went to the dealership with my VIN and the lady that cut the key didn't even ask for backup documentation. Even gave it to me for free because she didn't know if her key cutter was working right.

Fired right up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely an advocate of kill switches. Takes a smart thief to do anything intelligent like getting a key. Most thieves took that route in life for a reason...

Hats off to BMW for the way they do it. Their keys can't be copied by any normal machine and dealers can't do it either. There are ten spare keys for every BMW sold in North America in a warehouse in Pennsylvania. You order them through the dealer and you have to show ID and ownership docs when they come in the next day (at least in NJ). When those ten keys are gone, that's it, time for new locks. If you want to know how many keys for your car are out there and who got them, BMW has the paperwork. I was impressed by the whole scheme.

Yeah it's a great idea, but care to share how much they charge for one of those keys? ...:wow2: Another thing, once those are gone it's extremely expensive to get the computer programmed (even though the chances of using 10 keys are rare). But better yet, I don't think you even need keys for them, now it's a proxy sensor that you carry in a pocket or purse and it unlocks when within 10 feet and push button start.

Honestly it's very hard to get keys made for cars, yes our 15 year old trucks are a different story but now days you need special cutters, the average looking key is going the way of the dodo bird (sp). . . Most cars are going toward the four track cuts and then you need programming and those are expensive machines that require being registered with the manufacturer for the programs. Example, try getting a key for a ford transit.... Wtf!

One of the best things you can do for your truck is to go and visit a locksmith for something like 50-100 not sure because I do it myself, you can get the wafers replaced in your ignition. This makes it extremely unlikely someone can get a worn key and luck of the draw unlock the cylinder.

Just be thankful we don't drive and 97-2008 Chevy truck, cause I have 6 specialty cut keys that can unlock just about 70 percent of them. Now that's scary!

OK, I get it that you want to keep the location of the kill switch to yourself, but regarding the rest of this project, why all the secrecy?
Can't you just post the info here for all to see, and benefit from?

Look at it this way. I had to look up the schematics to find out where the wires were at, where they travel and decide where I wanted to tie in. Not many thieves will do that. If you know where the wires are or even worse, where people are tying into them you don't even have to look for the switch. All you have to do is go to where they tie in and cut and reconnect... get it? Might take all of 2 minutes to do. So if someone else (BRIAN ) wants to give that info out for all the lazy thieves to see fine. I won't do it.
