Where is the trailer wire converter box?

Yes. Pull the screws on the baseplate for the rear cargo area and carefully pull the panel back (pull too hard and it can break the plastic clips). The box is located right above and rear of the wheel well.

yes definitely on the drivers side rear on a 99.
Pull straight out on the plastic panel once you have removed the bottom trim piece across the back end and if you have a cargo cover you have to unscrew the attachment receiver piece up top near the taillight height.
It's helpful to loosen up the top trim piece across the back end also to give that trim piece room to move...possibly even removing the cargo area light back there.

I found this article and it was useful for this. One note on my 98sr5 the "black box" was zip tied to the left side metal support bar . The box was behind the bar and was not plainly obvious :redbrick:.

I have not replaced it yet since I am waiting on the part to arrive but it seems simple enough.

Interior, exterior, I just want to find it and hook up my wiring right so I can have signal lights. I was thinking it was on the passenger side under the access panel.
Seems like it really should be easily accessible. I will look for it this weekend.

It's supposedly on the interior, driver's side near the tail light. You have to take off the driver side interior panel to get to it.
My '99 limited didn't have one. I purchased a Hopkins 4315 wiring harness kit intending to use it to add trailer lights. Alas, the vehicle was totalled before I ever got a chance to install it so it's still sitting in my garage.
