where to buy/install alarm

after the string of car thefts in my 'hood' from peoples driveway, i want to install an alarm. Wheres a good place to buy and install? I had a head unit installed at circuit city once and the service was a bit shady. Thanks.

Alarm's won't really do much.

Look into a battery disconnect. Usually around 15 bucks or so.

The only gripe is that you gotta open the hood and remove the knob everytime. The way it works is when you start your 4runner, it needs the AMPS to help power the starter, well the battery disconnect is a disconnecting power switch (still keeps power to radio/clock so no worries) and w/o the knob you can't start vehilce (not enough amps to pass thru). Thus stopping the truck in it's tracks.

Alarms work but if they want your truck, they'll figure out a way to remove the alarm and drive off. Atleast w/ the batt disc they'll have to figure out a way to reconnect it b4 leaving the scene.

But if you want an alarm, try any aftermarket car stereo shop as they can do the work. Heck even CC, Good guys, BB can do it too!

I'd say I personally don't have an alarm though as if they want it, nothing will stop em (damn punks!) - never leave anything valuable behind in the truck (in plain sight).

the disconnect is a good idea. i'll have to look into that. as for an alarm, i'd like it to wake me up at night if someone is trying to break in as my room is right next to the drive way. i'm actually more concerned with these punks taking my truck and stripping it for parts.

I can relate completely... But be aware that they can disconnect your alarm w/o it going off... I've heard of stories where their vehicles went missing from the driveway. (They had the usual alarm/club in stuff too!!!).

But keep your head up Just remember, it's only an object that can be replaced. That 's why we all pay a high premium for auto insurance.

Since you have a 2004, you have an ECU that will refuse to start the engine without a correctly coded transponder key in (or very near) the ignition switch. The only way anyone will be able to steal your truck is if they tow it away. I don't see that a battery disconect will gain you anything.

ahh, forgot about that. there better not be a work around for it.
