Where To Buy Mylar Strips?

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to hunt down those mylar strips that come with the OEM hood protectors- I believe both the US and CDN version have them.

Anyway, the dealer told me they only come with the hood protector as a package and cannot be ordered separately. They directed me to Walmart lol. Toyota Canada simply directed me back to the dealership. After weeks of looking online and searching here, I am empty handed.

So, where can I buy these things? I want extras to protect my hood from the hood protector brackets potentially wearing thru the mylar. If you don't know, is there an alternative I can use?

Absolutely. Go to your LBS (local bike store) and ask the mechanic for some cable stickers. They are clear mylar tape, usually shaped in a circle, that they use to keep brake and gear cables from scratching the bike finish at rubbing points. We call them cable stickers. More cultured civilizations probably have a proper name for them.

I've actually seen what you are looking for at the local Walmart, lol. It was in the car spray paint aisle, but I bet you can probably find this at most auto parts store: Door Edge Protection Film-Shop 3M

There are tons of other options though, Lamin-x, RVinyl and all those vinyl film manufacturers make this.

Obviously you don't need to order it in a strip/roll, you can just order a sheet and cut it out to the size you need. I would try ebay first, the prices are usually better. All it is is just basically the clear hood bra type material, so this should be very easy for you to find on ebay

Thanks everyone. I couldn't figure 3M out. All I could find were large expensive rolls. I didn't want to be putting anything harmful on the paint either and was doubting myself.

I scanned Walmart's auto section and had no luck. The only thing I could find were adhesives for wall mounts.

I guess I'll either try the LBS or check out the links you posted!

Just called my LBs and asked if they had any and told them [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] sent me. They said they have tons of them. Problem solved. Will be going to pick some up shortly. Gabby is leaving us with a dump of rain tomorrow so doubling up my mylar will be tomorrow nights garage mini-project.

Edit: just picked them up. Guy gave me 6 packages for free. Each package has 4 rectangular strips (like the ones that came with the hood protector), 4 oval strips that are a bit smaller, and 8 circular strips. Good to go for a while. Thanks [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION]!
