Which Air Intake should I get

I also agree that the HP gains are negligible in almost all the real world situations that our Runners are in since we aren't at the drag strip and if you want better gas mileage then sell your 4Runner. Aftermarket intakes are mostly a nice deal since you don't need to buy another filter. I have the deckplate along with a K&N and I didn't spend more than $50.

I thought Light's posts were very informative since he had solid evidence in his posts and wasn't just going by an opinion or something he heard or the proof being off of somebody's butt-dyno.

Yeah, he did make many fair points, but the site he was getting his data from was using a filter from a Duramax Diesel, which I haven't seen, but its certainly larger than the 4Runners filter. This increased flow volume increases as a function of area meaning the larger the filter gets, the more all of the filters will be flowing less air than they can handle. Also, he used the volumetric flowrates from the test, a measly 350 cfm per minute (a small amount for the size of the Duramax's fliter).

I will back my claims up with facts as soon as I get and install the intake.:beer:

I can speak from experience with the K&N Drop-in (1st)@15k miles, FIPK(2nd) at approx. 38K, and the Throttle body spacer(TBS/FIPK) (about 45 days ago). None of the 3 or combination have improved my gas mileage. The only time I see an increase in MPG is when my wife has driven it for a few days. I have a lead foot. It is for the most part the same as it has been since I put the 265/70s on at 30k. It went down slightly with the increase in tire size (maybe 1 mpg). I have not kept spreadsheet records. Just going by the computer, which we all know is generous to say the least but hopefully it is consistent. The K&N kit for the V-6 is down right loud at WOT. My wife was not pleased with it at first but adjusted. We swap vehicles every few days. The TBS does make a whistle sound at just the right rpm but that varies with how humid/dense the air is that day. If you are looking for improved MPG I don't think you will find it with the 4Runner with an Intake Kit. You may get a small HP increase. Hey, i've actually been told that some K&N air filters can cause your MAF sensor to go out of wack because of the liquid coating on the filter.

PS: Does the throttle spacer really do anything? Is it worth it?

Other than the noise I am not sure it is doing anything. I did not have it dynoed before or after so I have no Hard data either way when it comes to HP. I see no Mileage gain.

Do a search since there's plenty of arguing about that too. I personally am not a believer from the dynos I've witnessed.

There is no AEM available for 4th Gen. 4Runner. I was checking couple month ago and only K&N was available for V6, K&N non VVT-i V8 and Volant for VVT-i V8.

I do believe there now is an AEM available for the 03-04 V6

Although it is the same kit as the 99-02 V6, Im wondering if it will actually work.

And a largest gain of 13 ft-lbs and 11.2 seems pretty goodto me.

I do believe there could be a hp increase depending on the OEM design. If the OEM system is restrictive, a system with better flow should produce some hp. From what I understand the 4Runner's OEM filtration system design is very good. I also believe that an intake system compliments a better flowing exhaust system. So, on some systems/vehicles you may only get a gain with better/more exhaust flow. You could put a 6 foot filter on but if the flow is restricted somewhere else there will not be any gain. It's best to only use verified/proven products on your particular vehicle. I've seen hp losses when K&N filters were used on particular vehicles. I'll use the TRD drop-in untill someone shows me the beef!
