Which bolt?

I have a stupid simple question for which I cannot find a definitive answer:

What is the size of the fastener used to secure the license plate to a 2015 4Runner?

The bolts my used 4runner came with are 1.0 thread pitch, but they don't seem to seat correctly and do not screw in completely. The receiving hole has become lightly rusted, so I can't be certain that's not preventing a proper seat. The bolts look newish, the hole does not.

I have searched online and here in this forum and have come up with conflicting information. Some sources say a metric bolt with a 1.0 thread pitch, others say that's not correct but don't actually say what is correct. I've looked at websites selling Toyota parts and have examined exploded diagrams -- no joy.

So ... what is the correct size for the license plate fasteners?

the bolt is a M6 x 1.0
1. chase out the rusted threads with an M6 tap and some penetrating lubricant
2. Purchase and install stainless steel hex head M6 bolts. Use anti seize.
