Which lights are CANbus lights - LED swap

Hey Guys,

Just bought a 2008 4Runner Limited V8 and the first project I want to tackle is to swap out all the bulbs for LED's (Interior + Exterior). I've read through a bunch of the threads on here and went to order the LED's. When I'm looking through the list on vled or superbrightled there seems to be some that are CANbus LED's and some that aren't. They also warn: "CAN Bus bulbs should not be used in non CAN Bus applications".

I was wondering if someone on here could provide any more information on which LED's are CAN bus and which aren't.

What other pieces of equipment do I need to do the full swap? Load resistors? Flashers?

If I could be even more wishful, I was wondering if anyone out there had an exact list of which LED's they bought and from where so that I could order a set that has been tested and verified by someone else.

Can Bus? lOl, in a 4th gen toyota? OMG you dont want that problem. I just did a 08 Audi A8L yesterday and everything is canbus. SOOOOOO annoying.

None that i know of on the t4r 4th or 5th gen. I swapped out everything at 50 miles in my cousins 13 5th gen and did flloor lights too.

Hey Gshadow325, did you set up those rear gate led strips just like your engine compartment mod with mercury switch, etc?

No, ran a wire thru tailgate boot to the lights and tied in to rear cargo dome light

I don't understand what they mean by the LED are on the CAN Bus?

A Controller Area Network (CAN) Bus is a network line and unlike say the LEDs on a network card or wall socket, there aren't any that blink on the vehicle to indicate the network is active. In fact all the CAN lines are directly linking modules and nothing else, a resistor like an LED would be more of a liability than anything if it was actually on the communication lines (yes, I am ware GM uses terminating resistors on some of their older CAN systems, but I am talk Toyota )

I was looking at replacing the 3rd brake light (921 bulb) with an LED as it failed and maybe the 2 reversing lamp bulbs as well (also 921). Checking the fitment on one of the sites that is linked in the Mods page it suggests CAN bus replacements for bothfittings when i enter my vehicle details. Is the 04 Sport CAN bus? I couldnt find a referene to CAN bus in any specs. Second question is, does it matter, will the CAN bus LEDs work just as well?
