which one will you buy? 2 sets of maxtraxs first or a winch?

I got bogged down for the first time in the snow this past weekend. All part of the fun! So based on your experience, which one will you buy?

Just did....a winch on a receiver plate. Can transfer to any vehicle I have. All I need is a front mount for a few hundred and a quality extension cable $180. I don't use a winch to climb over rocks and pull me way through impassible stuff. I use it to pull my butt out. Totally useable on mine or anyone's rig. The Warn Mount is a flimsy POS!!! Build your own for about 70 bucks that will be 10 times stronger.

I'm leaning this direction also to keep costs down. A regular winch setup requires some sort of bumper and probably suspension to handle the extra weight. Unfortunately I don't know how to weld or have the time and money to learn. At least not anytime soon. So there are people who make these things but they are way more than $70 but still cheaper than a bumper and suspension. Here is the CBI version...

I was talking about the receiver for the winch. Costs about $70 in materials. I would be happy to make and weld one up for you for $100. I would grind all the corners etc. for you to eliminate the sharp edges. Let me know as I am going by the steel place Thur. otherwise who knows when. You pay the shipping and it weighs 30lb. 3/8" base plate, 3/16" Fair Lead Plate, 1/2" protector bars, 3/8" bracing, 1/4" tube. Tube is a true 2" OD.

I have not gotten around to building the front hitch assembly...again I know I can make it stronger for less. I could build just about any time until May....then busy season starts....wont be able to do anything until Dec again. I could have it done in a day or two depending on how much beer I drink.

If you buy a winch, you have to ensure that you have something to attach the end to. A tree/another vehicle/etc.

If you buy the maxtrax, you can self recover most anywhere.

I would choose depending on where/how u offroad. Desert with soft terrain and nothing to hook a winch to....max trax. Mountains with rock crawling n trees...winch.

If you're on a budget go with the max trax. But you're comparing recovery gear with similar but very different applications. If you're wheeling by yourself I would drop the coin and go with the winch. Which on a receiver can be very handy pulling yourself back off or out of stuff.

Yes I was also talking about the receiver for the winch. An a $100 for one is a very good deal
