Which One Would You Buy?

I've narrowed my search down to the following.

It'll be used to haul a small pop-up to the deer lease, haul kayaks to the water, and DD in the rain so my Lexus stays pretty. Budget isn't an issue, so let me know what I should do to the truck upon purchase. I'm thinking doug thorley headers coated in jet hot to keep the HG cool? Def a rooftop kayak rack, some interior gun racks, and some type of lockable cargo solution.

Please tell me which one you'd buy and why:

1994 4runner 4x4

Toyota 4Runner 4x4

1995 Toyota 4Runner V6 3.0L 5 speed 4x4

THANK YOU!

If budget is not an issue, I would be looking for a 3rd gen 4runner. Stronger motor, better looking, and not much different price range then what you are currently looking at.

But out of those 3, I would say the 5 speed. At least you could slightly have control of your gutless 3.0l.

Is there that noticeable difference in the two?

I had a '93 xtra cab 4x4 truck, but that was in highschool in the late '90's. Loved it, but eventually it was stolen... are the 4r's more of a pig than the trucks or ab the same?

I like the 2nd gen body style, reminds me of the pickup I had in HS. I loved that thing (it was stolen while home for summer break in college).

I'm leaning towards the 1st one... but all the talk about the 3rd gen has me exploring my options.

should look at 3rd gens
2nd gen is basically a 1st gen with 4 doors.

Agreed! You would be better off with a 3rd gen if you plan on towing. The 2nd gen with the 3.0 will do it but not as good as the 3rd gen.

For what it's worth, the 3.0 has a lot more power than the 22re. It's not a bad engine. I don't know why the 3.0 gets such a bad rap, the engine is just as good as the person maintaining it.

Take a good look at your options on the 3rd gens. If you like the 2nd gens then get that and later on you can do the 3.4 swap which is almost a bolt on swap. The 3rd gens can be had for 5-6k if you're not too picky.

if moneys not an option dont buy a 3.0. worst toyota motor of all time. id reather have a 1st gen with a 22re 4 banger....most people in the classic forum want or have 3.4 motors in their rigs. i plan on putting one in my 85 4runner sooner than later.
