Which Parts to Stockpile from Pull Yards?

We have a local "Pull-a-Part" here and I keep a close watch on whenever a 3rd gen T4R comes in.

I go to look and pull a few parts to "stockpile" just in case I need them. For me, I have pulled a few charcoal canisters, door handles, a couple of throttle bodies, air boxes, trim pieces, etc.

What does everyone here think is good to pull and keep on hand?

sun roof rails if the sun roof works. I went through 5 and still haven't been able to find one that works so I decided to delete my sun roof vs continuing the hunt. spent like $150 and decided it wasn't worth it any more

abs sensors if you sell them on Ebay as used items seems pretty easy to make a buck

And if you grab an elocker rear axle, get the front diff too. They're usually 4.30, most trucks with open diffs are 4.10,m you'd need both if you were going to swap it onto one of those.

I know this is a dumb question but where is the "ABS Module?" I believe the ABS "sensors" are on each wheel right?

Are you a hoarder? Have a small pathway through your house? But you know where everything is, right? [emoji23]
I hate having extra parts hanging around, so I would say to grab anything that you find is in better shape than a part you have, or any part that is an upgrade to something on your rig.
I don't know about a "stockpile", but it wouldn't hurt to have a couple spare OEM CV axles- with boots in good shape- on the shelf.
There are some items that could be worth grabbing to resell, but there's really no reason to have a stockpile of '99+ center consoles.
My '01 hasn't really had any issues at all, and when things break, they aren't things I would want to replace with equally-old used items.

I think he is talking about the center armrest lid. Mine is jacked I def. need one. My passenger airbag cover is messed up too! I heard they are a bit of a pain to change. Marks on those types of pieces drive me NUTS.

oh ok. I've changed out the center console lid. It wasn't that costly and only took 2 mins to swap.

Yeah I'm down with that!! From what I've read the airbag cover is a bit more involved to change. But just as important...get 'er done! :cheer2:

Nothin that dramatic. I was driving thru Oregon and got an e-locker rear axle from the wrecker. But I got the front diff form a different one that turned out to be 4.1.

My 4runner was 4.1 so now I have 4.3 in the back and 2 X 4.1 fronts -- one on my car and another really clean one on the ground. Then I had to search for another 4.3 one which I found from the local salvage mechanic guy for a decent price. I have front diffs everywhere now. Rear axles too. They aren't the easiest things to store but luckily my mom has 2 acres.

Last year I did a trip to California with the 4.3 in the rear and 4.1 in the front. I had to put it in 4WD on the beach so I did a half mile like that. When I got back on the dirt road off the beach it wouldn't get out of 4WD. The trick is you have to back up a smidgeon for it to disengage the front if they are different ratios, I guess the stress has to be relieved first.

I did the passenger airbag cover. It is a PITA. But, worth it because now my dash is clean! Somebody did a write up on it, I’ll see if I can find.
