Which Parts to Stockpile from Pull Yards?

I did the passenger airbag cover. It is a PITA. But, worth it because now my dash is clean! Somebody did a write up on it, I’ll see if I can find.

Are you a hoarder? Have a small pathway through your house? But you know where everything is, right? [emoji23]
I hate having extra parts hanging around, so I would say to grab anything that you find is in better shape than a part you have, or any part that is an upgrade to something on your rig.
I don't know about a "stockpile", but it wouldn't hurt to have a couple spare OEM CV axles- with boots in good shape- on the shelf.
There are some items that could be worth grabbing to resell, but there's really no reason to have a stockpile of '99+ center consoles.
My '01 hasn't really had any issues at all, and when things break, they aren't things I would want to replace with equally-old used items.

Definitely not a hoarder but as parts will get more and more difficult to find (while rising in price for the ones you can) I want to have some parts on hand for this rig. I am not planning on selling it and unless I have a wreck or an Act of God kills it, I am gonna keep it running. To do that (and to keep it looking good) the Pull yards are the best happy hunting ground for inexpensive parts.

LUGNUTS!!!

Seriously. No, seriously.
I needed 3 lugnuts to pass safety inspection (I stripped them during my last tire rotation).

I looked at auto parts store, and they wanted almost $10 EACH for Dorman brand. Amazon only sold in bulk, and eBay would take too long with shipping.

My local pull-for-you yards wouldn't sell me lugnuts due to safety concerns or some such. I guess if they give, the wheel falls off, etc. But they can sell used tires. That makes sense.

Anyways, I'm kinda buddy buddy with one of the counter guys at a pull-for-you yard, and he said to just go around back to where the 4Runners are, use a tire iron that was in a wrecked one (cause I can't bring in my own tools) and just grab me a few (he can't sell them). So I got 7. I figured 4 extra wouldn't hurt anything.


Hoard small things that won't take any (or much) storage space, but that can be problematic and affect drivability if they die. Like MAF sensors. Takes less than 5 minutes to remove one, and if you accidentally kill yours during a routine cleaning, you'll have a backup that you don't have to wait a few days for shipping
