White paint on 06 already rubbing off???? HELP

Why is my white paint already fading and rubbing off????

I went to the car wash today and was going to have my WHITE 06 4Runner waxed until the shop guy said "DONT BOTHER." I noticed the paint was dulling and even started rubbing off and he told me the "clear coat" is gone. I live in FL and wax it myself every 3 months or so but the paint is very DULL.... Ive found out that the white paint doesnt have a clear coat but it's built into the paint. How do I rejuvinate the color? Am I screwed or will a wet sand bring it back? I purchased the extended warranty..would it be covered? Thanks for the help

I had a white tundra and a red solara. Any time I waxed those, the color would rub off some on the pad. Bothered me too. I believe I read somewhere that these colors do not have a separate clear coat whereas your metallic colors do. Maybe you just have some oxidation and a light polish then wax would do wonders. Just a thought...

Before you try anything, take it to the dealer. Paint/corrosion should be covered for 100k miles. There is NO reason your paint should be that way in 5 years, that's ridiculous.

From my understanding, Toyota's white, red, and black cars do not have clear coat. So yes, when you wax/polish one of these, it's going to remove a fine amount of paint. If you are waxing every 3 months, depending on what you are using, it may have removed enough paint to notice. I would have to see if for myself to determine, but maybe you should have a professional detailer or a paint/body shop take a look at it.

If it's a one-stage paint you will have "dead paint" on there. Any one stage is like that... my old MR2 does it and every red car from the 80's that looks pink does it. I do see that it's a one-stage paint though. Natural white paint - Toyota Tundra Forums : Tundra Solutions Forum

What you're seeing is the nature of one-stage paint with the UV rays of the sun, don't worry.

Before you wax do you wash it with Dawn? Try that, it'll strip all the old wax off and ready the paint for new wax. When you buff/polish the car you will see white paint coming off cause it's white all the way through, not clear on top. Don't worry about it, use a Meguiars "paint cleaner" or a polish (I use the Meguiars 205) and it'll buff right up. For a wax I'm using the Colinite Insulator wax for its longevity and shine (http://www.autogeek.net/collinite-insulator-wax-845.html).

If you prep it right, it'll look great when you're done.

So the natural white has no clear coat? How is that even possible on modern cars? If I had known this I'd have never bought my 08 sr5. :wow2:

Don't get me wrong, any metallic or pearl is going to be clear-coated.

There's nothing wroung with a single-stage. In fact a lot of times they're a lot harder finish. It'll take a LONG time (or rough polish) to knock paint off my old MR2's single-stage white.

yeup i have the same problem..n i have never wxed it till just recently. like 6months ago...and to tell you the truth i think the wet sand might do it.. i had a local shop do a spot on my hood n it was a big difference no bull....im serious if n e thing try it out...it wont hurt...unless its really really dry..lol..i know how it feels it sucks bad man...now you gotta look into paintjobs and its not like u even planned for it you know.. its not something u expect for a newer vehicle..

Been using Klasse All-in-one about 1-2 times a year on my white 05 4Runner since new. Paint looks showroom new - it looks and feels wet. I've never had ANY paint rub off, and I've never had to use any polishing compound on it.

I love the Natural White.

I'd wager a good detailer can fix your paint. After that, get the best wax/sealant and car wash you can.

Thanks for the all the input..Apparenty the detail shop can fix it back to new via wet sand etc. He said he sees it all the time in Florida on white 4runners and white Hondas.
