deckplate mod links

so ive searched and searched this site. and by search i mean typing it into the search box and then giving up. and i have not found any write ups for a deckplate mod for my 3rd gen. im sure its as easy as everyone says it is but with only the after pic to look at i have no idea where to start. could someone please show me the way. thanks

Also, you'll notice if you scroll to the bottom of the page you'll find more threads on the same topic that have others on here have started (a nice feature of this forum).

Here's a search hint: When in the forum section you want to search (ie 3rd gen forum) click on the "search this thread" link (on the right hand side just above the first sticky thread). This will open up a box with a link for "advanced search". Click that link and it opens up a new screen. On this screen type in a word or two that you are searching for in the search box, and then change the search parameters to "title only". Click the search button at the bottom. Usually works for me.

Also, is it possible that you could edit your thread title? I know its catchy and all, but for the next guy that joins up and starts looking around for "deckplate mod", the search engine isn't gonna be worth **** if this info is hiding under a mistitled thread. Thanks.

Really the easiest way to search is using google. It will bring up more sites and you can specify just t4r.org results come up. I always try that first because searching on this site is a bit difficult.

how do you change thread names?
 
Why cut your airbox, why not just drive around with the box open? No cutting and the same results plus you don't have to buy a new box if and when you decide to sell the truck.

The problem with that idea is that the airbox lid being closed helps to seal the air filter to the airbox. If you drive around with your airbox lid open you're going to suck a lot of dirt into your motor which isn't going to help your resale value any.
 
so one more question to revive this thread. will the deck plate mod work with a cold air intake? because i was going to do the deck plate mod and soon after the CAI. any suggestions on brand or type? only one ive seen is K&N

just do the deckplate mod man screw CAI, most cars with"Cold Air Intake" its not a cold air intake at all. cold air intake is when you put the air filter way out so there is no layer blocking it like under the bumper or behind the grill, if you only want volume deckplate mod is way better, stock air intake with deckplate gets more hp than aftermarket CAI, btw great title i thought this is one of those coming outta closet thread lol
 
Yea just do the deckplate and skip the CAI. That being said, I had a free K&N CAI and what I did was use the intake tube portion only instead of doing the ISR mod. So I have K&N intake tube mated to my stock airbox with the deckplate mod. If the K&N wasn't free I would have done the ISR mod on this site. Btw the deckplate has a sick sound at WOT!

I really like my deckplate mod..almost free and I can seal it off back to stock form if I travel through dusty areas. Nice sound at higher RPM's and the transmission seems to hold gears longer before downshifting (especially when going up hills)
 
Well see I didn't know you shouldn't use it in dusty areas. I live in Arizona, my whole city is dusty! How much harm could I do if I do this mod? And I'm surprised no one likes the CAI I never really looked into in until I saw it on this site. If you guys don't think its worth it I won't contest. Saves me 300 bucks.
 
There are disadvantages to both the CAI and the deckplate, you have found one (the dust thing). You will have the same issue with a CAI because the cone filters used on most CAI's don't filter the air as well as a stock filter will.

If I were you, I wouldn't bother with either. There are alot of other performance mods you can do that aren't as contentious as to their benefit.

Start by making sure it is running perfectly in stock form before doing performance mods. I think the deckplate mod is over-done. I did a CAI on my old car, and while it gave it a nicer sound, looking back it really wasn't worth the money, and gave worse air filtration.
