Who has a stock 4Runner???

Mine is stock, except for the shocks. I even still have the original tires at 77k miles although not for much longer.
I use mine as a work vehicle and do not take it off paved roads much, so it is quite capable for what I use it for.
I did get tired of the squishy OEM shocks by about 50k miles, so got some 4600HDs, they greatly improved the ride.

Damn straight! Mine is stock except for a tire swap that I had the dealer do at purchase.
I'm still waiting for wheeling to determine my mod needs as I go. I've done that on all my 4Runners. That is blasphemy to many but it works for us quite well.

I got mine stuck in Upper Michigan's spring thaw in month two of ownership. A few months later I had it lifted with better tires.
Not sure about your area but that is patently false in my area and the people I go out with.

Spends on what you consider stock. To some it's not stock if you have upgraded the air filter. I consider mine stock but I have replaced the tires and leveled it with bilsteins, but I don't consider either of those as increasing the capability enough to not be considered stock. I did it for looks and better ride on the road. That's 99% of what it is used for. I haven't taken it to ski resorts and navigated snowy roads with no problems and to the coast and driven it down the beach with no problem. That's all the wheeling it will ever do. I wouldn't go crawling rocks or driving through deep mud with it without further mods.

You are dreaming man. Go to youtube and check out people taking Ford LTD cars across the Rubicon and Moab lol. I stand by my statement that our vehicles will go much further than the courage of the driver. I have had a (I thought) hard time getting through mud and crap to a trail head only to find someone drove an Oldsmobile Cutlass out there right before I got there. Most people just THINK they need all the stuff to go places. Either that or they are chicken to take a 40K nice vehicle out without protection and breaking it because they can't drive.

I have kept my 2010 TE now with almost 72K miles, stock meaning no changes from factory specs/parts as in no larger wheel/tire sizes, no lift, no suspension upgrades etc.; because it is more than adequate for my 5% "off road" driving on gravel, forest, dirt, and snow on paved roads vs. 95% daily driver on freeways!
LOL, like 1Engineer said, I would definitely qualify as one of those drivers not being capable of knowing how to drive my TE to its full capabilities/potential as it is designed to be!

A bone stock 4WD 4Runner SR5 will take you pretty much any place most "normal" people dare drive. I know this first hand as I had a rental 5 generation 4Runner SR5 is Grand Teton National Park, it took care of Bar B C road (where the 2014 4Runner Trail promo video was shot) without any issues. I really didn't even need 4WD but did have it in 4H for several "climbs". This was a trail that was rated by the Park Service for 4WD trucks/SUV's only. I certainly wouldn't try it in a crossover but the 4Runner ate it up including the large boulders and rocks. Out of the box it is one strong trail rig.
This was one of the highlights of the trip, and nine months later a 2013 BP SR5 4WD was in my driveway. That say's it all don't you think? I think another one might be coming eventually who knows it might be an LE or TRD Pro.

Stock here. I've had mine since mid 2010, 58,000 miles and not one problem. I get around 24mpg on long trips which is pretty impressive for the capabilities of this vehicle. It's been through a couple of bad snow storms and one hurricane with flooded roads - great vehicle for any environment. Stock tires are still fairly quiet and rarely require me to add air.
I should note I've spent the last week searching for a replacement vehicle for under $60k (not sure why I even looked). I couldn't find anything To replace it. It was my first SUV and I can't imagine driving anything else now.

What stands out most in 1E's excerpt above for me is "40K nice vehicle". After driving a Honda Accord for 16 years and 257,000 miles I do appreciate and respect my vehicle more than maybe your average driver would. I want the Runner to stay nice and last, however I won't be "Chicken" and I will use it when my driving situation warrants.
Unfortunately, the wife has the Runner as her daily driver to transport the kids around. Isn't that how it always goes, the wife gets the new car???On weekends we will be taking it to the OBX and hitting the beaches in pure stock form. When the time comes, I will upgrade the tires to something slightly more aggressive. Until my wife is done with the Runner, I will continue to research and stockpile ideas for modifications. When the Runner becomes our "3RD Vehicle" like our recently departed Jeep use to be, I will be able do what I want without fear of complaint from the wife!
