who has done a body/suspension lift

Hey dudes

I'm Cory, got a 92 4runner. My rear suspension sags so I wanna get new springs for it. Wouldn't mind a mild lift nothing too high as in 2" or 2.5", at a later stage possibly interested in a body lift. I'm posting a new thread because I'm sick of sifting through bullshit in other forums so I'm asking you guys, who's done what I want done and what's involved? I got front torsion bars so I've heard people mentioning wind them up to compensate for the back or use ball joint spacers, and others talk about making brackets for everything else that needs to be dropped/compensated. Any advice would b appreciated.

How do you have 3" on a sas ed truck? I've always thought that like 6 was the least you could do on a sas? Just very curious not trying to be a smart ass Hyde

I will be doing the complete Old Man Emu lift as soon as I have the $$$$......
Nothing better available (I.M.O) for a mild lift & best ride quality.

A body lift should only be done as a last resort. Sure you may gain up to 3" inside the fenderwells to stuff a larger tire on your rig, but. All you realy accomplish is raising your center of gravity. Thus loosing stability & making it much easier to roll the rig. Again this is just my opinion.

Hey,
If its free, its advice.
If you pay for it, its therapy.
&
If you use it, its a miracle.

The afore mentioned OME suspension would give you what you are asking for, 2" or so of lift, and better than new ride and handling.
Forget cranking the t-bars. If you need a little more lift you could jet another inch with BJ spacers up front and a longer shackle on the rear. A 2" body lift could be added later I'd needed.
I don't know why everyone rags on BLs, it's usually people that have never has one.
My 83 has one to make more room for the Buick V6/TH350 trans setup, and my 84 has one so I can raise my drivetrain and gas tank up on the frame.
Never created a problem.

If the rig is for off-road use @ slow speeds then the body lift is less of a concern. But most people looking for a mild lift are driving on-road the majority of the time. On-road usually means higher speed in the streightaways & corners where body roll becomes a key factor in roll over accidents.

I have had a couple rigs with 3" body lifts. Removed them from both & it made quite a bit of difference in the stability of both vehicles. (Not to mention seeing the frame hanging way down under the body looks silly to me) I chose to go with a rebuilt 3.0 in my 4runner because if I converted to the 3.4 I would have needed a body lift + it was cheaper.

RUF spring swap

Flat RUF springs. Haha. I have very little up travel, which is the trade off. Ill never run whoops in this truck, but it will be incredibly stable in the woods. the kits give you more lift because the 3" kit is 3" leaf springs, then any lift from the different axle, hanger and shackles add up. So my RUF springs alone are a 1" lift.

You guys know me so well. haha.

I mean if you want to get into it, the BL keeps weight lower. Yes, it raises the body, but the frame, engine and drivetrain is still lower, where as a suspension lift lifts all of it up. You really want to keep it lower and run bigger tires... see kidvs pic, remove sheet metal.

I think people are quick to hate on the bl because people think about 4" ifs lifts stacked with 3"BL at the mall. They are also have a bad rap in on road crashes when the body lift bolts break from added stress of the lift and the frame and body separate. But, I agree they are a great lift option when used correctly. Flatbelly anyone?

That tcase are you running behind the th350? Im about to change my drive train up and looking into that tranny (or a 4l60e) with either toy cases behind it or a d300.
