Who has put front FJ springs on a V8 / need measurement??

Just wondering how much lift was gained with the heavier motor ??

I know the V6 gave about .75 or so.

it actually doesn't have the answer to the question asked in this thread. I would like to know if anyone has done just the fj springs on the front of a v8 and how much lift that produced and if it would be bfg a/t's onenough to squeeze a slightly bigger tire under there. I don't want much in the way of lift, just enough to get a set of bfg a/t's under there

If you go to that link, look at ARK_SWAMP_RIDER's truck. He's got rear air suspension but other than that he has the setup you're asking about. With this lift you can fit 265/70/17's without rubbing. However, you can also fit 265/70/17's without any lift. The bfg a/t's in particular do rub slightly on the upper control arm without a lift, but it's minor. Most other tires in a 265/70/17 size will not rub.

again, I'm looking for info on just the fj springs up front on the v8 with no spacer... ARK has the 1/2" spacer with the springs.

Stock size BFG ATs will fit without a lift. If you want 70 series, they will fit too but may rub slightly at full lock. Mine in 265/70/17 size rubbed the front liner when in reverse at full lock before the lift was installed, but that was about it. Easy fix by moving the liner forward. The lift helped until I put spidertrax wheel spacers on. If you plan on doing that too, you will need to trim the mud flaps and move the fender liners for sure.

The 265/65/18 are the exact same size (diameter) as the 265/70/17s, so rubbing/fit issues are likely to be the same. You may have more problem with rubbing the UCA with the taller profile though.
Check this link for tire sizes.

I'd guess on the safe side that you'd only get about 1/2" lift out of the springs alone. Why not spend the extra $100 and add spacers at the same time. You'll get the level stance, better looks and less problems with tires, plus your going to have the suspension out anyways. Trust me, you're going to want to do it when you're not happy with the springs alone. Might as well save time and money and do it all at once. (JMHO)

FJ Coils off a 2007 FJ with 26K miles on them
Bilstein5100s set at 0.85" in the front
Before measurements:
Front Driver 33 7/8" Front Passenger 33 3/4"
Rear Driver 35 1/4" Rear Passenger 35 7/8"
After measurements:
Front Driver 35 7/8" Front Passenger 35 7/8"
Rear Driver 36 3/8" Rear Passenger 37 1/8"
I ended up gaining a little over 2" in the front and 1.125-1.253" in the rear.
I have no spacers just new shocks

I really don't want to put to much lift on the vehicle. I don't want to sacrifice the mpg to be honest. And I haven't been able to get a good idea of how much would be lost by doing, say the fj springs and a 1/2" thick spacer up front.

A 1.5" lift in the front will show no noticeable difference in gas mileage. I installed my lift on Sat/Sun, then got my new tires (255/75/17's) on Monday. I manually calculate gas mileage at each fill up, and my mileage now is better than in stock form. I don't have detailed records from before, and it's not leaps and bounds better, but I'd say approx .5-1 mpg better than before.

Well, I have an 05' Sport V8 4x4 and just did the FJ spring swap. I had the rear on already and loved it. Now I've added the front springs w/ Bilstein 5100's set on the .85" setting. My fender is almost exactly the same height off the ground as ARK_SWAMP_RIDER's but he's running a 1/2" taller tire.
I wish I had measured before and after, but did not. All I can do is measure after and let you know. BTW I'm running 265/70/17. Here's a link to my after pics.

So let me get this straight, you don't want to lift too much because you're worried about the increase in gas mileage, but you're putting upsized BFG ATs on? I think you got it backwards. The MPG difference is negligible with a small lift. I didn't notice any decrease with the lift, however the BFGs dropped it about 1mpg.

ark is saying that he's getting better gas mileage though. And it would seem to me that it would at least offset a little bit the way I drive (mostly interstate travel with some at a 70mph speed limit). I think at those speeds the taller tire is like a taller gear and will allow me to maintain speed at a lower rpm. I know drag will still be an issue but like i said, i think it will offset at least somewhat.

Yes I'm gettin slightly better, but that's due to tire size. I think you've got the idea on the height, but remember they are also narrower than the stock tires, so theres less contact area and eaiser to get started turning. Several (not all) of the guys running 255/75/17's and a small leveling kit have had a slight increase in gas mileage. Gas mileage is the reason I chose 255/75/17's over 265/70/17's. With the 265/70's, most people are loosing .5-1 mpg with the 265/70's.
