who wants to go wheeling?

If I where to just do the 5100's all the way around with some decent springs... you think I'd have any regrets?

I didn't... My suspension is 5100's around with toytec ultimate coils up front and superflex springs in the rear. Handles everything I've thrown at it to date. Ultimately, it's your truck though. My suspension was more than I planned to spend initially, until I came across a really good deal... So I can't complain. Though, I can't think of how a 6112 would be much different from what I'm running now.

Appreciate that feedback man... Yea as far as these 6112's with Res's and 5160's sure is it easy to get caught up in the it's the "Newest and greatest" hype, yea... But I then I just think do I really NEED those... No not really lol.

I've been reading/chatting a bit in a thread lately with this "Sonoran Steel" guy who I guess is a local Tempe shop. He does this lift incorporating the 5100's all the way around with I guess the TRD Tundra progressive coil upfront and then I think a Radflo coil in the rear.

My issue with that, is while I'm SUPER intrigued by the Tundra Coil element and it sounds pretty legit, the way he does that lift as a kit basically requires a 3" in the front and 2" in the back at minimum. I don't necessarily hate the idea of going to 3" on the front, but I also don't really want to keep any substantial rake on the 4runner and if thats a 2" coil in the rear, the truck is probably going to remain pretty raked out.

So... just some things going through my head lately.

Ideally from what I've been scanning across the forums, I'd LOVE a 1.5 coil of some sort in the rear and then maybe a 2.5-3' setup for the front. That would about even things out I would imagine?

Sorry for being long winded lol

.

Sonoran Steel is nice but you can piece it together cheaper yourself.

Also what I was thinkin in the back of my head lol... Seems like he kind of nickels and dimes you a little on the final detail stuff like the coating/finish of coils/panhard etc and a pretty basic lift with OEM tundra coils ends up probably every bit of 1500 with him.

I wonder if I could maybe just buy the tundra coil setup for the front from him.... Wonder what he'd charge.

In all honesty id skip the tundra coil up front. Not sure if 5th gens experience the lean a 3rd does but the adjustability of the Toytec fronts cf_coder has add to the adjustability factor of overall height and lean.

Honestly, black friday is 2 weeks away. I would wait to see what kind of deals the vendors are offering at that time. springs for the rear are going to run you just over $200, 5100s are going to run you 400, and that is using stock front springs. 600-650 for that set up, or a 1300ish for a full lift. depends on your financial situation i suppose. are you the kind of person that buys something to hold you over till you can get what you really want? if so i would just say wait till you can afford what you really want. my last truck i put a lift i could afford on, and wheels and tires i could afford, then 6-8 months later took it off and bought a better lift and wheels and tires. huge waste of money doing it the first time.

lol no doubt man, I dig your thought process. Yea I guess If I were to say the kind of "Person I am" with this kind of stuff.... I'd say that I like to do solid/reliable/quality stuff the first time around based on research and proven performance and reviews. So that said, does that make the 5100 with some type of combo of springs/coils the right move?

I mean I know I don't need some crazy lift for crawling over monster boulders lol, but I do want a lift I can feel confident about it's quality when I put it on and enjoy some improved performance in some fashion offroad when I go fartin around on dirt trails and bouncing over little ledges and rocks. Thats pretty much what I'm looking for.

Should I do the Camburg UCA's and a panhard at the same time and call it day? All things I'm still trying to come to terms with lol. I did just throw on some rubicon takeoffs that I'm SURPRISINGLY THRILLED about lol.

And I need to kick this new itch I have! Dammit.... Killin me right now....

Sounds like you should wait to see what Toytec has on sale :-). Forget the motorcycle, buy bumpers LOL!

I miss having a bike, what I don't miss is riding in this state.

This forum in general, can spend your money way faster than you can... :naughty:

I wouldn't be so fast to get rid of the rake on your runner. Lest you decide to put something heavy in the back or tow something, then you have everyone thinking your high beams are on. Some rear to front rake is not a bad thing. It's what your 4Runner came with after all.

Yea point noted, I actually don't know that I "HATE" the rake, I would just want it to be very subtle is all.

And TRUTH about this forum spending your money! haha good god.

So you just went with the toytec setup then right? Landed you where as far as lift exactly? And did come with springs/coils all around?

haha, yea man I'll give ya that, the drivers around here are a F#cking NIGHTMARE! And I come from Chicago, so thats saying something lol.

I do love this bike though lol. I still need to sell my Cruiser before I even start thinking about buying more goodies for the 4runner :-/

I'm running a Toytec Ultimate lift. It comes set up for 3" in the front and rear so it maintains the factory rake of just about 1". However, I really only got 2.5 or so inches out of the lift measuring from center of the wheel to the bottom of the wheel well. Maybe a little less. I don't know if that's due to the 5th Gen refresh weighing more than earlier 5th Gens or what... but that's what it is. The rake on mine isn't bad and it levels out when I have a rear full of camping gear...

the po probably adjusted it, they are adjustable. also the aiming of the headlights is adjustable.

Indeed, that is a possibility. As to aiming the headlights, it would suck to have to do that every time you had a heavy load or needed to tow something...

what makes you think having rake would be any different, any time you load the back up the headlights go up, its just geometry, the only way to avoid it is a higher spring rate or airbags.

So, I ordered and received my shrockworks sliders through the group buy. Picked them up today and tried putting them on by myself. I was under the impression they were strictly bolt on, but weren't even close. I've removed the rockers and have the TE trim on, but gave up when trying to put on the sliders.

Anyone have some free time tomorrow (11/17, Tuesday) and want to help knock these out? I have some tools, but a drill is required and the extra brainpower and pair of hands would help tremendously! I'll bring beer. Or I hear bloody Mary bars do the trick too. I'm free pretty much all day until 6. I will travel to you if anyone is mechanically inclined and willing to lend a hand.

Desperately,
Kyle

I don't have a drill but I'd be happy to help from one Kyle to another :p We'd have to start early though

So you can't even mount them minus the drilling parts?

I was aware that the 3rd gen ones need a couple holes drilled to totally secure them but they can be mounted up without drilling. Just wouldn't want to wheel with them till 100%
